foosa
Been chasing this one for weeks now, so last night I decided to sit up with the night vision and was ready for an all nighter if needed! It only took 3 hours and he came in to a vixen call. A 62 grain hollow point made sure he wasn't leaving.

foosa
Other than the wind the weather was ok here last night, I think the rain started about 10 o clock. I've had some frustrating foxes before but this one was up there with the toughest, quick flash of eyes and that would be it, gone for the night. Tried the night vision a few times and no show, baited an area with random results, it would come at different times of night and sometimes wouldn't show up at all. Then yesterday during a walk about the place I started finding bits of someone's chicken along a hedgerow so I thought this just won't do. So sat out in the truck with a good vantage point and waited. The only thing I hadn't tried up till now was the vixen call so after a long wait with nothing happening I decided I had nothing to lose and gave a few blasts on the vixen scream. It wasn't long before I spotted a pair of eyes way off out of range, to far for an id anyway, so I just sat and watched them work their way down the field, zig zagging and disappearing for a while then popping up a bit closer. Now I have shot thousands of foxes and that is no exaggeration but all of a sudden my heart feels like it's going to thump it's way out my chest and my mind goes into melt down and I start thinking what to do? Do I try the caller again? No best not due to past reactions to calls, was it actually coming into the vixen call or is it coincidence, then I get a positive Id, yep it's the one I'm after, shall I shoot it now? Don't be stupid it's near 200 yards and the cross wind is horrendous! It seemed like hours before it was close enough and I had managed to get my nerves in check and stop the reticule bouncing about the place. The hit was solid and it went straight down at just under 80 yards. Haven't felt the adrenaline on a fox like that for years, or been so chuffed with the result. FOXHUNTER1
Very satisfying when a plan comes together and you get the desired result

foosa
well done Brendan good result are you going to Arthurs on 13 DecCheers Dai, I notice your getting a few up there too. No I'm not going on the 13th as I'm working, hopefully get up there over Christmas sometime but between work, the new house and the weather I don't seem to have much spare time these days! We've decided we're going to Ireland next year though just for the home international, if we get in that is!
Daieye
Who invented work always seems to clash with our hobbys I believe the qualifiers start in March See you in Ireland

WelshMike
Great result. Glad to see some pics from you buddy. You certainly seem to be reducing the fox population given the numbers you are shooting. Keep up the good work.

Look forward to seeing plenty of pics from you mate. The weather here is pretty foul as well...when it does stop raining there are 50 mph winds. Take it easy
