steve_b_wales
Hi Lloyd, Get yourself some NikWax. Brilliant stuff which works well. Here's a link to the product, but shop around for the best price. http://www.millets.co.uk/mens/192577-nikwax-tech-wash-and-tx-direct-twin-pack.html/463206/?istCompanyId=b238823a-59fd-4816-9c36-7dd47877f2a8&istItemId=qwlqlrllw&istBid=tztx&gclid=CMby47fUmsoCFRLhGwodzNAGBA

Lloyd90
Alright Steve mate, They're brand new and never been washed so far , is that stuff alright to use ? I was just going to wash the mud off with hot water in a washing up bowl and let em drip dry as I'm worried about ruining the waterproofing

I've just done trousers and jacket. I put warm water in my bath, and added the liquids(s). I did the trousers first, by washing them, rinsing them out and then adding the wash in wax liquid. Did the same with the jacket, and it's reproofed them. You won't damage any waterproofing or breathability that the trousers already have. But, if the trousers have only a bit of muck on them, you could just sponge it off with warm water. I'm sure it won't affect the waterproofing of them. Personally though, I would do as I've said to make sure. Steve.

NikWax will not harm the waterproofing qualities of your trousers.
sportsbob
I tried Nikwax on some textile motorcycle overtrousers, I followed the instructions to the letter and it did not work so a total waste of money. Possibly ok for a shower but not driving rain.
lksopener
Nikwax tech wash is great but you need to make sure your washer has had a good clean first. Get it on a long hot wash to get rid of any old detergent that's hanging round and clean the tray before you add the nikwax, I use it in my berghaus aq2 and it's brill. In my experience, it's best to wash a garment in a large plastic bucket. The NikWax tech wash removes a hell of a lot of ingrained dirt. After swilling the tech wash off, I then use the reproofer. I make sure that the garment is completely submerged, and leave it to soak, then give it a good rinse. I have done a few pairs of trousers and also a couple of jackets, and have been pleased with the results.
Salopian
I have used NikWax a few times and have found it to be a totally useless product. Beware with latest technology clothes of the Goretex variety as washing in a washing machine on too hot of a wash can cause the waterproofing tape on the sewed seams to come away . ( You will know if this happens by feeling 'foreign' bodies inside the lining) I just sponge off any excess mud and dirt and leave to dry naturally . Waxed cotton Barbours may be old fashioned but they are thornproof and reliable.
Loki
Hi As Steve below I use the Nikwax Tech-Wash & Waterproofing (2 products) - for both my walking/hiking gear and hunting and found both to be good. However, I do wash them in a clean bucket, with warm water, rather than the washing machine - which needs an empty wash to clean off any detergent before using the Nikwax product(s). Go-outdoors were doing the Techwax stuff at half retail price which worked out less than their own with card price..... L
Dougy
You really should just try a short wash with no cleaning additive at all. make sure there is no residue left in from previous washes. put whatever garments you need washing and just use water. It will still remove nearly all the dirt on you garments by from the action of the washing machine. That is all I have ever done with all my shooting clothing, Deer hunter Ram trousers, Chameau trousers and they have all retained there water proof quality. Oh ! and no I don't smell either, and more importantly I done smell of cleaning products while out shooting unlike a load of you lot by the sounds of it
