I've had one a while now, very accurate with most factory ammo I've fed it, shoots 100g ppu under m.o.a with no issues so far including a decent trigger and no feed problems. Mine is the stainless fluted barrel, as for the sidewinder I've never used one so can't comment, been using a s&b 8x56 on mine.

Hi,

Any feedbacks on this rifle thinking to get it, also would hawke sidewinder will work on it without any issues?

I'd look for something German second hand plenty are about. Depends what you use it for and how much. Seen new S&B 8x56 30mm tube scopes for £400. Remember with a quality scope, if you sell it you won't lose a lot. Buy a Hawke, you'll lose a lot if you sell it.

ah thanks agree. Also am confused 50/50 some friends saying always buy a brand new rifle, some saying why you wanna spend more on something which you wont be using much, like you go deer stalking maybe you wont even fire a shot whole day if you do it be one or two shots u be firing. So get a used one.. am bloody confused lol, now thinking to find used 243 in good condition, and buy new 22LR/17hmr as they be used much more.. what do you guys think about new/used

Well, I held back till that post. People might already have read about the issues I had with mine.

I bought a very early model, probably one of the first few to reach the UK.

With a trigger that required the finger strength of Schwarzenegger, a crown nibbled out by steel toothed rodents and an inability to produce groups of less than 1.5" at 100 yards with Any factory ammo;I was less than impressed.

The stock was nice though.

Many pounds and hours of gunsmiths time later, I had a rifle with a lovely crisp trigger, perfect crown and hand loading addressed the accuracy issues.

As with any rifle, there's always a few lemons.

The rifle you are talking about is nothing like the new model, everything you disliked has completely disappeared and is now a great tool to use.

Just make sure you buy a new one then

Now that I have spent time and money sorting mine I'm now more than happy with it. But boy was it a dog to use before that!

kool thanks, went to shop the other day and saw Steyr Mannlicher Pro Hunter model used but been told its forest commisionary gun and shop guy was sayng i know the history of this gun and it is literally brand new, but asking price felt bit high was coming with Mod, sling, case, scope (nikko sterling 4-16x50 gameking which checked seems to be budget scope 100£ or so ..).. asking price was £1095 in shop..
Have spoken to another shop and asked them after above reviews to put 243 eclipse on a side for me.. new.. the best ammo to go with it would be winchester?

sure will do, yeh just thinking what brand would worth trying and what roughly grain people use for deer/foxes, i mostly be using for deer but yes if a fox comes in my sight will have a go..

I use 100grain Winchester super x softpoints in my eclipse and it shoots nice tight groups, iv not tried any others through it
