Sureshott
Hi all , new to the forum and need a bit of advice. Took a break from shooting for and got rid of my guns. Now I am back and interested in what a good all round gun would be. I will most likely buy second hand so thought on price. I live in Northern Ireland so I am not sure about getting one from the main land. Should I go for the like of a Baikal ? Over and under or a semi auto. I suppose it would boil down to price Anyone in N.I got one for sale let me know by way of a PM. Thought and advice please
Scully
If it's an all rounder then the only one that fits the bill has to be a multi choked over and under, whatever the make.

However if you`re not doing any formal game shooting then you could get away with a semi or a pump too.

Sureshott
Theres always the Baikal MP153 Semi-Auto, The Toyota Hi-Lux of shotguns As you can maybe tell by the post timings I was not overly busy in work last night. had a look at the MP153 looks good. I have been told to avoid Hatsan like the plague. They are giving a 3 year warranty with the new semi auto's but I know nothing about them. Thoughts please. I sorely regret selling it. It performed flawlessly. I have not yet heard a negative comment on how they function. The same cannot be said for a Hatsan. I have never owned one but it gets very mixed reviews. A marmite gun.
Scully
I am sorely tempted by the MP153. I think they're a great looking gun and function in all weathers and conditions from what I've learned. I think it would be the perfect shotgun for doing my rounds and just generally being abused and neglected ( within reason ). Handled a new one down at Malmo and also a very much used one, the latter of which on reflection I should have bought. Think one will find its way into my cabinet at some time. I can't understand why they aren't more popular.

I bought it for pigeon shooting but I`ve used it on clays too.
Big Al
I can't understand why they aren't more popular. Me neither. They came out at more or less the same time as the first Hatsans. I paid £350 new for my MP153 (they had been 300) and I think the Hatsans were about £250. I think they were simply eclipsed by price alone. I sold mine for more than I paid for it. Edited January 22, 2016 by Big Al

Sean Richo
I bought an mp153 from Malmo a few weeks ago really pleased with it. They did me a really good deal on a new one so ask what they can do you one for you will be surprised.
Sureshott
The chuffin thing is I have is I am in Northern Ireland. For me to get a gun onto my FAC it has to be sent away and processed. Pain in the tail which can take anything up to 3 months. impala59
Just on the Hatsan thing, I have a 2nd gen model and its never missed a beat, Mind you am very interested in the Baikal mp153 (the mp 133 pump also if they ever get here)

Then shop around and when your permit comes through you can do a one on one off transfer with the scrapper. No extra charge if it is all done through the same rfd. Sureshott
Al you are a freking star !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Monday will do for that. Mate what about getting a gun from across the water or the South ? Oh and here is there a problem going from over and under to semi auto ? Big Al
Happy to be of assistance! Bringing guns from mainland UK can be done through your local rfd. Choose a small one for this. The big boys don't like as they want to sell their often overpriced stock. Where are you in NI? I might be able to point you in the right direction (no promises mind.) All rfds will charge a handling fee for bringing a gun over from the mainland but this can be as little as £25. The VAT situation generally makes bringing guns up from down south prohibitively expensive but it can also be done via rfd. I don't think there is a problem doing any shotgun transaction one on one off (including semi autos) but ask your rfd about this as the new banded system will be in force soon (start of Feb I think.) I have swapped single barrels for semi autos o/us sxs and everything else. I have swapped 20 bores for 12g too. There should be no problem but just check as I know things are changing. Maybe another NI member can add to this? Edited January 23, 2016 by Big Al
