Bit of Shotmaking

Well with the warm weather, some real cheap lead and an imminent drop off from John at Folkestone Engineering I thought I better get the shotmaker fired up. Dropped 7.5's into DOT4 brake fluid this time I thought it would cope with the colder weather better than fab con.

Is it a trick of the camera, or does the shot drop onto that plate before dropping into the DOT4?

Yes it bounces down the plate and into the coolant, as gently as possible to avoid distortion of the molten pellet. The coolant wants to be within 1/4" of the ramp or you can get pancakes.

The ramp has to be hot and lubricated or the lead will freeze and stick. DOT4 has the potential to burn so you have to take more care than with water based coolants.

That looks great I would position is so the ramp is as far forward as possible to have as much space as possible to get it over the coolant and I would make sure the ramp isn't touching anything as this will draw the heat from it and cause the lead to freeze on it.

Ideally you need some kind of heat controller or the lead will get over hot and the element wont last long. I used one of these and searched the internet for installation instructions as the ones that came were Chinglish.

What size drippers are you after?
