well a blank to end the season but it was a nice morning to see it out and give the dogs a run saw a few geese but went out wide of us and yes fb we did get lost me mate said he new where to go but turned left instead of right at the end of the wall and walked a good mile looking for the white post told him this cant be right coz the river was getting closer so turned round and headed back luckily we bumped into two other chaps wayne n tony and they pointed us in the right direction cheers guys back to the pigeons and crows for now until we do it all again

You got there in the end mate that was the main thing ...shame they didn't play ball but that's wildfowling for you ..

Think all 3 of us was asleep when those 9 pinks came over in the half light ..

Only just see them to my right . To high and silent .. heard a couple of barnacle in with the canadas ...

Yeah I knew you got lost , I was just ribbing you , just shows how quick the grapevine can work

Shame you never bagged a bird but it has not shot great down there for a while unless the tides and conditions have been spot on.

I could say your worse and Tony at times but I think that's stretching the truth a bit .😂😂😂

Yeah, why not.

Gent's that is a top offer & why i think this forum is the best on the web, when members on here will offer up their time & some shooting to someone they don't know from Adam. Gent's if the offer still stands come next season i will pm you to sort out dates etc.

finished the season with not a sausage in the bag!!......had a good chance at pinks on fenlands, down the "middle entrance" one morning flight. a small bunch of pinks (7 or 8) came past me about 30yds away and i missed cleanly with the first shot, pushed further past for a little more lead and thought yes, heres my first pink of the season, pulled the trigger of the Browning semi 10g and nothing happend?.....correct, the cartridge did'nt eject the reciever properly sh%$£*t !!!.....shot a mallard on holbeach out on "winkle run" it came down like a sack of spuds on the other side of the creek, the lab got half way across when the mallard got up and flew off?...mentioned this to a fellow fowler who had the same thing happen to him, steel shot?....anyway, shot a high wigeon on "mallard creek" it steadily fell away from the rest of the pack, finishing up about half a mile out on the mud by which time the dog had averted his gaze to another pack of wigeon coming behind the first lot but way out of gunshot!! nevermind, thats how it goes, unfortunately, i could'nt get all that often this season but i'll be back trying again next season, i still enjoyed it.

Likely or not that mallard was knocked out with pellets to the head that didn't penetrate or do the brain in

Have seen it a fair bit once had a dead bird floating about in the decoys head underwater some time then when I left the dog on drop and went to pick it up myself it came back to life lifted it's head and flew clean away

Watched it go a good 400 yards before it disappeared

Dog gave me that certain look on my way back in

It's been a poor season for sure

Think it's the first I haven't shot a single widgeon but I just haven't been under them and have only physically seen an odd one. Normally it's hundreds if not thousands on the marshes I shoot

Going to phone a guy I know who counts wildfowl for uu and ne see how the counts have gone inland

The offer will still stand. I am certain that I can get you under the pinks ( I have had another good season on the marsh),the rest is up to you.

Season ended 250 miles from home, on a dark windswept marsh no others there but us we had the place to ourselves.

Each went our seperate ways and got in position. Things were not looking good and by half eight i was thinking of calling it a day.

But spoted activity down the shoreline pinks coming back on, they must have been out on the moon, so seeing where they were going and the skeins folowing them were cutting the line folowing them and each lot were crossing the shore ever closer to us. two down opened up droped two straight out to three shots and the folowing geese slamed the anchors on and turned up the shore man did i hug the ground dog was whimpering but i knew they were high, and i knew the other lad was behind me and to my right, so i let the lead birds go past me they were to my right, so giving him a chance of a do.

Picked the second bird up from the back left arm of the skein. and went for it head back i knew it was done hit the ground with that resounding thud i so love to hear. we walked off with four very happy lads. .

It is over now. rol on sepember.
