Fredwalton
I'm very near to persuading my wife to let me buy a new as I've been harping on about for nearly a year now. I really want a Silver Pigeon, now these aren't cheap at 1400ish quid ( I know that's not overly expensive but still a lot of money) anyway having been and picked one up etc I feels so nice but how do know that your going to go on with it or is that just a risk you take as I can't exactly ask to borrow it for a weekend! Danger-Mouse
The only way to be sure is to find a 2nd hand gun and try that before buying the new one.
McSpredder
The only way to be sure is to find a 2nd hand gun and try that before buying the new one.Agreed. Very popular model. Very high chance that a local shooting ground will have a similar gun, and probably one or two from other manufacturers that you can also try, on the same day, on the same targets (ideally with a coach to check gun fit). If buying new, you will be dealing with an RFD, who may have a s/h one on the shelves that you can try. Buy locally if possible, so that any problems can be sorted, or stock alterations made, without sending the gun away to the other side of the country. I would always prefer to buy from a gunsmith who can do repairs and alterations on-site, rather than from somebody who is just a shopkeeper. Guns like the Silver Pigeon, or comparable models from the Browning/Miroku stable, don't tend to wear out quickly, so my inclination would be to buy s/h, and have a bit of cash left over to spend on coaching, gun-fitting and practice. Cosd
See if there are any clay grounds near you where they also have a gunshop. These will let you try before you buy as long as they have a used selection.
HDAV
Or wait for a demo day that GMK are at Avalon have them in the summer as do many of the larger dealers and you can go and try a few Example http://www.bisleyshooting.co.uk/event/beretta-benelli-demonstration-day/ Edited February 29, 2016 by HDAV
dodeer
Greenfields in Salisbury will hire you one for a day for around £50 But most shooting schools will have one as a lesson gun, so your bound to find one near you

McSpredder
It looks as though you in Suffolk. Names that spring to mind are practical gunsmiths Richardsons (Halesworth) and Jason Harris (Framlingham) and the well known shooting ground run by coach John Bidwell (High Lodge). bruno22rf
As said - do not buy one until you try one - it might sound a strange thing to say about such a popular Gun but some people just cannot get on with them - my son may as well use a Broom stick as a SP yet he shoots a Winnie extremely well. I would also consider buying a used one as some people tend to change their guns like their socks - but whatever you decide have a GOOD look over the gun as SP quality seems to be questionable lately- wood to metal on mine was so bad that I sent it back and bought a 525 instead.
