Fuji Shooter
A 40 year rolling exemption for classic vehicles was announced in Budget 2014. Budget 2016 now makes this a permanent exemption for classic vehicles so that on 1 April each year vehicles constructed more than 40 years before 1 January that year will automatically be exempt from paying vehicle excise duty. It is reported that there are around 10,000 classic vehicle owners. 2 years to go on my Series 3 - yeah

69chris
This is a bad thing im with you there !!! everyone thinks im going mental (maybe they are right !!) but they dont give anything away without something in return !!! they have been trying to ban/restrict the use of old cars for ages to no avail, but........ if the tax is free, and in pre 60 examples mot exempt, then they can make all/any restictions they like mark my words, you read it here 1st (or 3rd or 4th !!) the end is nigh.....etc etc

la bala
The rolling system updates occur each April. For example, April 2016 sees all vehicles built prior to 1 January, 1976 eligible for Historic Vehicle car tax. This means all 1975-produced cars can be reclassified. April 2017 will see this change to all pre-1977 vehicles, and so on.

scobydog
!972 was I am sure the cut off point. Blackpowder +1 it was definitely the end of 72 originally, my beetle is a Dec 72 car and is tax exempt, this was imported in 82 and a certificate of authenticity from the vw museum in Germany proved it was built in Dec72 but it has a Y reg plate on it soon to be swapped for an L reg so it looks right. One of my first bikes in '66 was a Bantam,so fitting that my last (i;m 70) should be the same.
