HunterFarmer
I was just shooting a few crows over decoys today I was using 7 36g cartridges and I seemed to miss the easy ones but was able to hit the further one? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

oldypigeonpopper
hello, what make of shotgun did you get? fixed or multi choke? i expect your pattern shot to open for short range but the choke used for longer range was i expect full with no 7 carts, try some 39grm 5/
oldypigeonpopper
Not too sure what choke is on her as I'm a newbie how would I know? hello, most choke details are stamped on barrels depending on where made. if you say make of gun and look at markings put up a photo am sure some one will know

HunterFarmer
Thanks it's a fixed choke! It's a french
oldypigeonpopper
Thanks it's a fixed choke! It's a french 75 hello, thats an oldy, S/S, it should have all the relevant marking under the barrels cartridge end, take a photo and put on here or you should find info on google reference FRENCH 75 choke markings, i would hazard a guess your right barrel has an open choke and left full choke that is why you can get a much longer range maybe even half/full, if it were me i would try a different cartridge for crows, 29g 5s,

I regularly miss jackdaws at under 20 yards, but am a lot better at 40 yards.

robbiep
Practice on the clay ground is all, really. That's what I do if I'm struggling
HunterFarmer
Thanks should I use the open barrel for shooting close birds?
oowee
I cant hit clays for toffee I think its the expectation of them coming out and thinking through what I have to do. Far better with the gun on pests where the shot is for me more instinctive with less thinking time.
