Beardo
it's a lovely calibre to shoot, soft on the shoulder and packs a decent punch
Houseplant
it's a lovely calibre to shoot, soft on the shoulder and packs a decent punch Thanks Beardo, that's what I keep hearing, and flat shooting too?
Beardo
pretty good for the weight of bullet it's throwing
Cambsman
It's a very good calibre. Does tend to cause some discussion and debate but once you join the club you will never go back! It's just so versatile and forgiving. Delivers a fair old punch down range too at sensible hunting ranges. Choose your bullet carefully for each application and you won't go far wrong. Nuke
For deer I would say any factory load will do as long as they are accurate enough with your rifle. No need to overthink stuff. /Markus
dodeer
I used a 6.5 x55 for a couple of years and shot maybe 300 Deer with it and my staple ammo was Norma 120g ballistic tips. Found them very good.
Houseplant
What's the lightest factory round for this calibre? Cheers.
activeviii
Cheers for the info guys.. I don't mind anyone with a input posting..it's good to here people's views.. I think the 6.5 tops off my collection now, 22lr for rabbits and small vermin, 243 for foxing and long range crows, and 6.5x55 for deer/boar.. I'm going to try the federal power shock when I find some glass for the top, I've ordered the new tikka t3 X , so will take me a couple of months to source all I need for it, meopta 3-9x56 for the top and a ATEC mod...plus a few other bits, not planning on reloading as I won't be using enough rounds.. Cheers all for the posts.. cant get boar on the 6.5 down here. even though it will drop them and is used in Europe we need 270 minimum so be a little careful and check first. It's probably a question for another thread (again!), but since I want a gun for both goats and deer, and goats are often taken with smaller calibres, I was thinking get a 6.5x55 and use a light round for goats? Beardo
i'd stick with one round to be honest, the 140 will do you well for both
Dunkield
Same. Knowing they are made and getting hold of them could another issue all together. The only possible exception being boar. I do fancy a couple of boxes of something heavier for them, where did you get those Norma's Beardo? I guess as my need is greater than yours, what I am really asking is, have you have any left? Patrol
I would say Norma for factory ammo, the 120gr ballistic tip and 140gr partition both shoot very well in my 6.5x55. Plus 1 on the 120 gr. BT Norma I've used those on numerous occasions in a Sako 85 6.5 X 55 very sound all singing all dancing, never had a need to change, had the odd one go ballistic so to speak, but they do the job in hand quite well I also used the 165 gr, depending on your rifle weight as they appear to have a little bit more kick than the

activeviii
160 grain will work nicely on the boar. i have a hundred and something of 160gn prohuntrers here just sitting on the shelf. bought to test in a rifle that was shot out. ended with a re-barrel and then went with 140gn interlocks for the fallow. never went any further than that. Bewsher500
any of the factory soft points that shoots well in your rifle no point recommending one over another ask around if anyone has some left over factory ammo or stump up and buy a couple of brands if the first one shoots take the others back! Was just asking what rounds people were using before I start buying boxes to try, I'm going with the federal and Norma first to see how they group..
