  1. Guys What is like on aluminium 1.2mm through to 3mm Is it or would it be a bit toooooo fierce ?????
  2. A really good foxing round I use Hornady 35 grn V Max which are brilliantly accurate, so much so I don't bother to reload they will shoot sub half inch in my rifle Shooting wise - given as there is virtually no recoil. Shooting out to 220 yds is easy enough all day long Check out the balladtics and choose a round that suits your rifle With the Hornady zero @ 100 yds it's good for anything out to from 70 to 170 yds. Rabbits at 200 yds - half way up the ears does the job Good luck with new gun, you'll enjoy the duce, lovely calibre If you want to try one - give me a shout I'm only 20 mins away you could come down for a night out foxing Patrol
  3. Hi Sent you a pm With a contact number for a afternoon on the Kent sussex border Really good value and a great day out Patrol
  4. CCI. segmented are pretty good Eley are the most accurate, but a bit on the sticky side 1100 ps. Good for the longer shots a do the job
  5. Just put one on my .308. It's brilliant. Worth every penny
  6. Put a 2' cross of ferret food by the fence for two nights then do the same on the third night but also put a live multi catch rat trap in the middle of it , you should have a sack full by the morning 😀 Patrol
  7. Now that's sorted. What about glueboards.
  8. Hi Bumpy First day out tomorrow on some open field earths, got two new Jill's to bring on, should be a good day, haven't touched these earths this year with the 22. Should be one or two about.
  9. Hi 30-6 I have now given snares the boot as they are not good for singling out targeted species, The way I used them then was to arrive early on the piece of ground install some wires with stops in areas I couldn't see with NV and settle in for the rabbit shoot and check them every hour, they do help on the reduction and definitely it's not cruel as anything caught is not in the snare very long and not harmed just held that's the best you can get as far as it goes, clear them all up after you've finished shooting and everything is back to normal. These days leaving snares out overnight is not the best idea, they will hold almost anything and the old age problem with non target species pops up Best way is to sit up and nail the rabbits with a rifle and or of course the best ( my favourite way ) ferreting if you can get to the earths Good luck Patrol
  10. Hi Craig I've got two 222's. and there are both tack drivers, I use mine for long range rabbits, Canada geese reduction, foxes and munties Can't find a better rifle, cheap to feed, reloading is a doddle and inherently accurate I've got a permanent NV on the Weihrauch. ( photon 6.5) its faultless and a S & B zenith on the blaser with aN870 on a QD I can tell you they've both accounted for a few foxes 50 gr v max. For all but canadas then 50 grn NTX without shifting poa Really superb all round calibre Long live the Duce Patrol
  11. Out on wabbits last night with the 222 laid up along side a long hedge grassed a few long ones, walked over to my buddy opposite side of the hedge, spotting with the thermal for him, looked back on my bit cheeky fox walked out 150 yds from where I was laid up, picked up the nearest rabbit and scarpered back into the wood Sat up three hours after not a fox seen, missed my chance. 12. I found the the TI a bit off putting on clarity at first compared to NV But once you get used to the complete difference of TI and NV it will open up your world. TI is the best by far for spotting 100% the decent NV IMO is brilliant I use the pulsar N870 and the pair together TI as a spotter and the NV with range finder as well on the rifle are a deadly combination My set up is brilliant it will be a while before I will be looking to upgrade Patrol
  13. Just out now on a lovely dry and a very little breeze of a night, just grassed two bootiful adult foxes with the 222, I'm in awe what this little rifle of mine is capable of, both of these over 200 yds according to the RF 210 and 220 odd yds out with the pulsar N870 and X850 IR on top Happy bunny comes to mind. Patrol
  14. Grandalf You made me larf. I tried the 22-250 quite a few years ago, didn't have mods then, I'm still looking around for the phone even now. Lol Joking apart it's a serious long range foxing rifle, I don't think it's got any limits Patrol
  15. Just took delivery of a new 222, run it up with 50 rounds over two days clean and shoot clean and shoot, factory Ammo and its shooting a ragged hole, grassed three foxes with it so now it's good to go, out tonight to start, seen five foxes only one with a shot on, grassed that, so now it's bunny bashing for the rest of the evening Patrol
  16. Out yesterday on a local two lake site, water was gin clear, very slight breeze, weather was pretty cool, managed two on the tiniest home made black buzzer on a very very slooooooow retrieve over five hours My eldest lad whitewashed me last time with a 4 to 1 thrashing I've Turned the tables at last, yesterday he stayed on a variety of Montana and hares ear and scrambled one at the last minute, my youngest lad, Lost two apparently, don't know what junk he was using, he's a secret squirrel when it comes to flies. They definitely wasn't the easiest to hook into, but a cracking day out with my lads, finished off with a pub lunch which apparently the days winner always pays for, it's a new rule apparently. ??? The old man is back in the running Whoooooopee.
  17. Wow Nice night out there grasshopper I've grassed one or two this week only after a heck of a lot of walking and sitting up Dunno whether the heat has had an effect, but they haven't been showing until 02.00 hrs hereabouts Patrol
  18. Hi 6.5 x 55 se I sold some reloading gear to a guy in Hampshire and he had been using 70 grain heads for quite a while apparently in his 6.5 , there is a load sheet available from one of the loading manuals, ive seen it somewhere I've been looking for the 70 grm BT but had no luck. - so far Be a good exercise if I can get some, that are accurate, my initial thought was the bullet weight is a tad light for the old swede, I'm still on the lookout Lol Patrol
  19. Hi 6.5 x 55 SE I've been looking around for some 70 grain BT, apparently they shoot as flat as a pancake Can't find any hereabouts Can I ask what propellant your using and barrel twist of your rifle and the 10000 dollar question how do they group Cheers Patrol
  20. Hi Archie I load a rather quick 120 Grn BT in my 6.5 X 55. Using Nvhit 160 It's a fantastic long range foxing round
  21. I've just tested some loads with the same nvhit 120 and 50 Grn V max Cracking flat round, I under loaded it for the first three batches, bit of a tweak up had a couple last night with it and it's just point and shoot out to 200 Very very accurate, well pleased with the load and bullet v max really suits the calibre Been using nvhit 160 in the 6.5 X 55 for while now, that shoots well. Nice all round propellent Patrol
  22. I've used the fox pro fury to good effect in the past, particularly on the lambing fields, I now 99% of the time use 6 hand held calls to pretty good effect on a landyard, mainly as an aid to get em in the safe zone and as a stopper for the shot I've been out with foxers and seen in disbelieve electronic callers with a mix of over zealous lamping completely mess a night up, spooked everything for miles with continues noise and lamping, basic field craft, getting the wind and position right will get you more results, planned quiet spotting and patience will outshine a caller. There are a time and place for a caller but use when required, some calls are terrific when you get it right, as another option Patrol
  23. Two more in Ze bag Had a little run out for an hour last night to check zero for next week See three and grassed two of em. Both full grown dog foxes around 80 and 160 with the 222 None of em seemed to be in a hurry, just wandering around, downside was the mozzies, I've got bitten to bits, I laid up on a bank overlooking a valley with a stagnant pool nearby , I've got a forehead that looks like someone has taken a toffee hammer to it and note to myself don't wear shorts again when foxing I'm smothered head to toe in bites Let's hope we have some decent frosts and cold snaps early to knock em back Patrol
  24. Out last night for an hour, two foxes one at 80 the other 160. With a nm 800 IR on top , nice clear night, see both foxes as clear as day with IR on mid power, on the 222 The 6.5 are pretty good for what you pay for them Good luck Phil
  25. For me Short range .22 WMR. Out to a 100 Mid out to 200. .222 This one is my all time favourite - sweet rifle and round, really does the job, I've got two of these and keep saying I'll sell one but ones permanent NV and the other has a decent day scope on it - I'll just keep it a little while longer. Lol Lambing fields / long range 6.5 X 55 or .308.
