Dougy
After a few misses ( pilot error) I took my Sako out for an airing, its not been out for a while as its a bit on the heavy side and far too heavy to walk about with. Anyway a call to the keeper yesterday evening saying that I would be out, I always ring, and always ask if he's seen anything about, I got to my chosen spot at around 21.00 and put a caller out. Shortly after this Dog Fox pops out of the cover crop at 175 yds so I popped out one of my 55grain nosler BTs it filled the gap pretty quick. I will take it out more often now ive changed the scope from a Z6i to a Leupold, couldn't get the Archer on the Z6. I just love shooting the Sako its just awesome, I checked Zero on Sunday at Garlands and popped in a nice 5 shot under an inch at 250yds. WelshMike
Now now lads , play nice I was rudely awakened last night at 12.30 by Mikes text telling me about his success Mike I think the RSPCA must be doing drop offs in your area still feel bad for disturbing your much needed beauty sleep
WelshMike
OK boys..not fox related but dont want daft comments and we are a sensible bunch. Had a disappointing weekend after deer. Saturday spent 3 hours in a high seat near Exeter where they had been seeing 15-20 fallow all day...saw nothing but my mate shot a nice pricket so that was good. Sunday headed to Dorset after sika with my mate and a friend of his who is a game dealer. I was put in a prime spot where 40 + had regularly been seen...2 hours in a gorse bush and no flippin deer seen. My mate shot a gorgeous 8 point stag who will make a nice trophy for him. The guy who is the game dealer shot 3.....250 metre high neck, 310 metre head and 318 metre high neck shot.....unreal shooting though this was with a custom 6.5/.284 ...but still cracking. Sympathy only please boys...no horrible comments
foosa
Sometimes goes like that Mike, had a similar experience last time I was down Dorset, three outings on a mate's lease with two other guys, they all had successful stalks, closest I got was when a 10 strong herd of sika came over the hill to my left and stopped 80 yards away all skylined! I watched one good six pointer for about 5 minutes before they headed off in the other direction, I'm down there again this weekend if the weather plays nice so will let you know how I get on. Until then here's a photo of my last foxy outing a couple of nights back to cheer you up a bit. Both taken with the .223 and night vision after spotting with the thermal, first one about 120 the second about 160 yards and both dropped to the shot, they were two of three for that night and taken in an area where I've had thirteen recently within 300 yards of each other. And here's the other one,

oowee
Out last night with Bumpy22 on some of his perms. Looked at a few places saw some but couldn't get a shot. Then at another likely location at the bottom of a large hill calling with the fox pro. About to give up after swapping to a vixen mating call. Final flash of the lamp and two were spotted at about 350 and 300 yards. One came in to abut 150 but did not appreciate the lamp and was off back up the hill. The other one was sat at 200 yards doing not a lot. Edd took the shot and it was down complete with a mouthful of berries. Then off to the last farm of the night and spotted one at 150yds but not in a good location. Left the fox pro on the truck and set off around the field. First obstacle was a new gate and we both did our best elephant like crossings We would have been quieter opening the gate. NV revealed the fox still in place, now at 80yds. Closer and closer 10yds at a time still there until we were at about 35yds in a much better shooting position and down he went. A very large dog. FOXHUNTER1
Shame about your deer trips mate but that's stalking , either falling over them or see nothing. I have always been lucky whilst out stalking . Once had a day fallow stalking , I shot 4 but my mate blanked.

I have always been lucky whilst out stalking . Once had a day fallow stalking , I shot 4 but my mate blanked. To be fair I had a great trip and some good banter. The sika stag my mate shot was an absolute stunner and made up for me drawing a blank. I ll have another couple of trips sown before the end of the season so hopefully will have some better luck. Off after the foxes tonight as the RSCA may well have made a delivery of tame foxes whilst I was away Farmer phoned me to say that he had left a couple of dead ewes in the yard prior to dead stock collection and 1 had been dragged 10 yards and half eaten last night. Hope that Chester zoo hasnt lost any large carnivores recently that have made it down to my area

WelshMike
I headed off last night to see if the RSPCA had dropped of some more tame foxes for me to deal with Almost full moon conditions so not ideal but foxes about so needed to get out. Farm 1 I bumped a fox about 20 yards away with no chance of a shot, then the heavens opened and I got soaked which is all part of the enjoyment. Over to farm 2, got out of the truck to hear a fox calling. Up into the field and set the caller going with a mix of vixen and gekkering , spotted a foxy pair of eyes in the NV spotter, got behind the rifle and the little blighter was coming down the fence line in amongst the ewes...got to 40 yards and had to shout to stop her. Bib shot and no 1 down, nice vixen. Moved to another spot and spotted a fox within 30 seconds. Got set up but despite calling for 10 minutes no further signs of the fox. Just as I was leaving I caught another glimpse so set up again and hand called for a minute. The fox headed out but didnt seem to want to stop. Loud shout stopped her for a split second at about 140 yards and she dropped on the spot to a chest shot. Another vixen. moved to the final spot and set the caller up again with a mix of vixen, gekkering and distress calls. spotted a fox about 40 yards away but no safe shot. turned around and spotted another one heading in my direction. took the shot at about 100 yards. nice dog fox and another good night . thanks for reading

WelshMike
Good foxing there Mike, well done. What electronic caller do you use? Cheers mate. I have a foxpro wildfire. I downloaded a few different calls onto it such as the vixen and gekkering and seem to have a good mix of calls without having to scroll through 100s of calls. I am shocked at the number I have shot at the farm I was at last night. I think I have accounted for around 15 on 2 fields and pushing 30 on the farm this year alone. Helps get me towards the century mark though so all good (6 more to go). I am back out after yet another chicken killer tonight following a text this morning so guaranteed not to see anything.
