Dougy
At 04.00 this morrning after a fantastic night at work :-( I went after a Muntjac that had been spotted on one of 3 trail cams I had put out in the woods. I originally planned to get there around 03.30 before sunrise, but was a little late, I had to rethink my approach. The 1st plan was to stalk to an area under some chestnut trees but the light was not in my favour really. I scanned with thermal before I approached the field, nothing around, not even in the wood, maybe the rain had put them off. I decided to go under the chestnut trees anyway, and waited there for 15-20 minster. Gave a few calls with a Buttalo and soon got a glimpse of Mr Munty in the wood, not a shot on but was pleased something was around. Another 15 minutes and nothing, I suspec0it had gone on through the wood into its bed for the day. I decided to have a walk through and see if I could call him out of cover. Got tight up to a tree and gave a few squeezes on the call, couldn't believe it, I must have stalked past it, just 5 minute's and he was showing allot of interest to the call. Stopping just long enough just 20 yards in front of me. High neck shot with 53 grain vmax dropped on the spot. Lost about 1.5 lb of meat from the damage. So not too bad, not as bad as a shoulder shot with a vmax.

Dougy
That day at WMS paid of then I doubt I would have it in the freezer without the day at WMS. And I bet that there's about as many shots missed close in as there are far out. Just sorting out the pork and seasoning for the burgers. Still got 1/2 bottle of red from the last one. team tractor
I panic at 15-20 yards. The easiest of shots are the easiest to miss.
malkiserow
Well done there Dougy, it's harder to keep your cool and adrenalin under control when they are in so close and you have a very small window of opportunity to get the shot off

It's a case of vermin control, but not as in rats, fox etc. It's a case of keeper says do, so I do. They can ruin a drive before the guns are on pegs. colin lad
There are times when modern technology is great like ya say vermin control I use nv on the bunnies and fox but it's still nice to go old school occasionally, Colin
