Fredwalton
Hi all What are the rules on using rope bangers? Can any one buy them or is it just a farming thing?
oowee
I buy them from a few farming type shops. Rules? Same as fireworks i guess.
Whitebridges
Handy things especially over winter OSR in the winter on BIG fields when you're shooting billy no mates.
walt1980
Never used these but guessing u light them and then get a delay between each bang, do people put them in a tin or something once they're lit? Or hang them on a pole? Just wondered as I might try them and don't want to set fire to the stubble!!!
Whitebridges
They are a fire risk IMHO in the summer months. I hang mine on a metal post which has scroll work on it (hanging baskets in the garden). Then tape the rope to it. If I don't know farmer Giles that well I always tell him because they are a lot louder than a gas gun. Also watch out for detectorists ( chaps with metal detectors) I've upset a few with rope bangers !
walt1980
I've got a metal rod somewhere, might order some tomorrow. What sort of price are they?
bornfree
We pay about £30 + vat for a box of 12 that's for the magnum ones. But we do buy them by the case. They are very handy for keeping foxes off geese.
Scully
They are extremely loud. Avoid placing them near public footpaths and bridleways. Pooped my pants doesn't come close!
hedge
Back in the old days before gas guns, the farmer would hang a rope of bangers in an old 55 gallon drum. Made a real racket and reduced the fire risk. Not sure if people do that any more. The ones we used to have were 12 bangers to a rope (I think) with a c.20 mins delay between each one. The only other thing I could compare it to was the old military thunderflash. Bangers are very useful in the right situation but need to be handled carefully and they are in my mind mini hand grenades (and more destructive than a standard firework). I wouldn't recommend putting one in a water melon....
