ShootingEgg
Anyone on here incubate and hatch?? I have 3 guinea fowl chicks and one has curled toes, little fella was properly squished in the egg and I had to assist in getting out as position was never going to allow hatch. Noticed now that toes are curled, going to leave for a day to see if they straighten out but what if they Don't??? Paul223
Just the one chick, looks healthy otherwise? Can you unravel the toes? May be some match sticks and tape for a day or two.
ShootingEgg
The chick was very much filling the egg so may not of been able to stretch out, this morning it has moved about and was out in the little brooding cage, feet are a little less curled but will check again later to see how they are. Teal
Never really had much luck with them, some sort themselves out and some die. Kindest is probably to tap on head, but I usually give them a go initially.
rimfire4969
Normally if they can't get out of the shell on their own there is a reason.
FalconFN
Never really had much luck with them, some sort themselves out and some die. Kindest is probably to tap on head, but I usually give them a go initially.Exactly that. I tried making little stiff shoes and taped them on but it did little good, it was kinder in the end to give them a good night tap. I think it is caused by not having the right humidity in incubation, but that may not be the whole story. Sadly, after weeding out crooked toes and sexing I found rearing your own was about the most inefficient ways to have fowl. Normally if they can't get out of the shell on their own there is a reason.+1. I was told never to help as it can kill an otherwise healthy but tired chick. ShootingEgg
Normally if they can't get out of the shell on their own there is a reason. And the reason on opening the hole up was because the head was stuck between legs of chick and it couldn't mkce its head further than the hole already made. Would I rather let it die in the egg of exhaustion or starve, no I would rather give it a good chance at life.

Ooh calm down, I am only saying if they don't get out on their own they normally have problems like the chick you have with wonkey feet, in normal life it would not of made it out so would not have the problems its now facing. Footu
Well I'd like to say this thread is not at all what it had the promise to be. On a good night out making a chicks toes curl is a totally different ball game. I must be on the wrong Web page.lol

dipper
I reared some ducks and one had that problem. I was told by a very experienced person incubator was too hot . He said measure temperature half way up the egg.Dipper
ShootingEgg
All feet sorted and now straight.... So might of just been squashed in egg. One chick never made it out, broke into air sack but never broke the egg.... Shame but nothing can do
