timclarke
Tidying up I have decided to sell a deactivated 303 Enfield that's sat in my gun cabinet for about 25 years but i can't find the certificate although I remember it was from Birmingham, Does anyone know if it's possible to get copies as I don't think i can sell it without a certificate? Scully
Sorry, can't help you, but can I ask why you've kept it in a cabinet? Mine was just hung on the wall.
Imperfection
The law has changed with deacts. If you wish to sell it or even give it way,you will need to have it deactivated to the current 2016 spec and then a trip to the proof house. The French used to have a different method. They simply removed the firing pin...
Twistedsanity
Sounds like a lot of expense to give something away! Probably more than its worth?
rovercoupe
And how do they even know know what you have or who you have given it to? Oh wait........ What happens if someone "steals" it and you "steal" some money from them?
Scully
Is it an offence to 'give' it away?
timclarke
Please could anyone tell me where to look for the proof house deactivation marks??
Scully
I can't recall if mine had any; but it did have a certificate of deactivation.
timclarke
Groan, I thought this was going to be easy - does anyone have any idea at all what a 1917 one of these is worth to see if it's worth all the running around?
deadeye18
Last smle I bought was 300 though I've seen them for around 400 now.It will have the DA crossed swords stamps on the breach and barrel and the bolt (usually on the bolt knob). They say nowdays you have to re submit them to the proof house but to be fair if you contacted a militaria dealer I'm sure they'd still have it from you as is. Scully
Have a look in Gunstar for prices. I gave mine away about 25 years ago. If it's an old deact it will most likely have to be resubmitted for an update if you want to comply with current legislation. 😊
Lord O War
Thanks to the mighty EU deac specs changed and in theory it is an offence to give away or sell a deac that has been deactivated to any of the older specs. In practice no one seems to be taking that much notice, many dealers are still selling older specs but all the recently deactivated is to the new standard. It is hoped that we can get recognition of the older specs as fit for purpose later in the year. I have about 50 deacs and this new legislation has stopped me buying as they are really expensive and can be rendered worthless or even banned ( that was on the cards at one point)at the whim of the government. It's really annoyed me as I have quite a sum invested in these and now they are in limbo. If you need to get it re deactivated it costs about £80 plus postage
