silver pigeon69
I saw this on a "Care2Petitions" web site, asking people to sign a petition against the above. It states: " 'Cubbing' is a cruel practice where young dogs are trained to hunt by ripping fox cubs to shreds. Please sign this petition to demand that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) crack down on this illegal activity.Fox cubs have little chance of surviving a cubbing, because they are trapped in a fenced off area. There is no justification for this organised cruelty. Stricter, well-enforced punishments for those who engage in cubbing would help save countless fox cubs from a horrific death. Please sign this petition now and ask that cubbing be more effectively tackled. This petition will be delivered in September to Defra's offices. If enough people sign, they will have to recognise that the public believes cubbing is barbaric and unacceptable, and needs to be stopped." I have never heard of this. Does this occur and if so, how/what type of dog would this practice be training??Where would people get the fox cubs from??
scotslad
As i understand it 'cubbing' is wot local hunt used to call the late summer/early autumn hunts bfore the real hunting season started in Nov. I'm no hunting expert but was pretty much just ur normal hunt except with more young hounds/foxes kicking about. From the way its written i'd say more nonesense by bunny huggers/anti's trying to ban something that dosenae really exist or is a real prblem. Seen a clip fairly recently (possibly on here?) where a huntsman is alleged to have thrown some young live fox cubs into a kennel full of hounds, but as usual a few things don't entirely add up for it to be entirely true but at same time does not look good wot ever te real story behind it is. silver pigeon69
Ok, thanks. Thought it must be some usuall exagerated BS from the anti's.
kennett
Yes cubbing is just late summer hunting, bringing on young hounds and mostly hunting the dopey cubs that we are all shooting at the moment. And unlike what is implied in the petition, cubs are near enough identical to adults by now, just a bit lankier with thinner brushes

kennett
No, it might be a bit tricky to fit the hounds, a fox, all the horses and foot followers in a small fenced off area.
silver pigeon69
HaHa, but it must be true, the Anti's who know so much about the country side and wildlife management have said so!!
bluesj
I think the main point that proves these antis are not as smart as they would like to think is the hunting with dogs act!
scotslad
But is cubbing not banned in eng anyway with the hunting leislation? Seems a bit of a silly petition Still happens almost normally in scotland as long as foxes are flushed to be shot by standing guns instead of chased
Davyo
They dont need the petition because the hunts do enough damage every year that gives themselves more than enough bad press. This alone along with their own stupid actions will ensure that we never see a return to fox hunting.
