Wooder
on of the fields I can shoot on has been put back to grass for sheep, recently seeded. drove past it on Friday must have been about 200 birds on it, drilled only the day before, previous crop was barley and I had a couple of fair evening shooting over the stubble. how long would the grass seed hold their attention. had to go away this weekend and wouldn't be able to shoot until Wednesday. (thought about throwing a sickie, but I have old fashioned work ethics)
kenholland
probably till it germinates ?.
ben0850
As above until it germinates but keep an eye on it. When we put in fresh drillings for the sheep it has a huge percentage of clover and the woodies tend to enjoy that if pickings are lean elsewhere
subsonicnat
Grass Seed is deadly for dogs feet.. Be very wary of sending dogs onto that seed..
aga man
It won't be long before that grass seed germinates and greens over, perfect conditions for germination at the minute. Grass seed whether drilled or broadcast is rarely touched by pigeons here, but i know in certain counties they can go crazy for it. Will be interesting to know how you get on. motty
I personally would not bother shooting, unless there was a really good flightline over.
JDog
The pigeons may still be finding barley.
motty
You could well be right, Mr dog, in which case I would keep a close eye on it.
Cranfield
I would keep an eye on it and if there are birds feeding, whether its old barley grain, or grass seed, have a go. As above until it germinates but keep an eye on it. When we put in fresh drillings for the sheep it has a huge percentage of clover and the woodies tend to enjoy that if pickings are lean elsewhere The type of grass seed may be the reason why some grass drillings in my area don't attract the birds and some do.
