washerboy
I try when I can to use a local business so rang a gun shop less then two miles from my house and asked about clay cartridges,250 of any brand I'm not fussy. His reply was I don't stock many but the cheapest I have are £65 and are hull x comp👀.... £20 more then the clay ground I can visit or any gunshop within 30 miles . Then they wonder why they don't sell many 😀
bluesj
I know the feeling, I wanted to order some ammo as in was going to be a big order thought Id have a ring round and see what prices I could get I wasn't after any particular make the only stipulations where had to be expanding and a good price. One shop would order but couldn't tell me the price until they got it in another quoted £38.50 / box of 50 plus postage as they only get free postage on orders over £800, my order would have been £770. the third said £44 / box of 100 and they would take care of any postage charge. So one couldn't be bothered one just wanted to rip me off and one got a nice order Edited December 24, 2016 by bluesj
Wb123
CompX seem to be funny for varying price. Living in Hull, about five miles from the factory I couldn't get them under about £180 a thousand. Drive 5 hours away to Salisbury and £150 a thousand. I had a chat with one RFD about it who reckoned the Hull pricing structure meant unless you were buying vast numbers of cartridges (>100,000 at a time) the trade prices were higher than I was paying in Salisbury. buze
I get my CompX 28g at £179/k, but the 21g my wife uses are at £169/k -both fiber- at the local shop. The 21 went up quite a bit recently, the 28, not so much... Still these are very good value... These are my cartridges of choice...

Greenfields sell millions of Hull each year so probably get the biggest discount they give I guess.
scotslad
Like someone said earlier unless gun shops are buying vast vast quanties of shells there is very little discount and tiny profits in it for them. Its far easier for a clay ground as they only need to stock clay type cartridges in a couple of brands, ur local gun shop will have to stock all sorts of brands (so different suppliers) covering everything from wildfowling, foxing lead heavies, game shooting and clays. So by the tine u factor in different shot sizes, loads for different folks preferences ur taling about quite a lot of stock and outlay. We looked at buying a bulk order from local shop and even getting 15-20K shells between us he said was hardly worth the bother, still not that cheap for us plus an outlay, really no cheaper than buying a slab and he said he was making next to nothing off it profit wise too.
