Cosd
Let's see, I ride on a hunt no less, on a country lane surrounded by fields, and then I get upset when I hear a shotgun go off.
Benthejockey
It's not the fact the bloke was shooting that's the issue it's the fact that he chose to wait until there was horses on the road and he then decided to let rip with the shotgun. I imagine even a big game shoot would pause if horses and hounds were trotting up the lane past where they were shooting. There are always two sides to a story but from the video it seems to show them trotting up the road and anticipating that the bloke is going to start shooting as they get level with his boundary. They're also heard to say he has a sign at the other side of his property saying that hounds will be shot if they enter his property. They can also be heard saying last year he put out dog food on the road to stop the hounds outside his property. It doesn't sound like a simple 'oops I didn't know you were there' scenario. So if there is previous maybe the hunt should either try to speak with thos person and come to an agreement or change the route..
Benthejockey
I think they were going a different route. Sometimes you come up against belligerent people with whom there's no reasoning or compromise. I've whipped in before and you get to learn where the difficult people are and try to avoid them but I've had people threaten to shoot me before when I've been stood on the road watching the hounds. The bloke in this video sounds like he would be the sort to run through a drive before you went shooting on a driven day or run outside and make a load of noise before you went shooting crows. Belligerent and difficult.
spanj
with due respect to both Both sides need to read up on road safety. Yeah and cyclists too. HDAV
Just sounds like 2 groups of people out having a nice day in the British countryside to me........ And if children are so distressed by a bang and some falling debris from a tree they really shouldnt be put in control of a horse should they....... dodeer
I'd say the shooter is a bit of an idiot with no respect for other country users. If you hear the hounds coming then stop shooting for a moment and let them go past.

I hope you're not one of them inconsiderate shooters that gives others a bad name, as a shooter you need to be responsible at all time whilst you and others use the country side to enjoy ones sport. Bry-M
as usual there is a lot more to this story than we know. If he had gone to the lengths of putting signs up saying he'll shoot hounds on his land then clearly him and this hunt have quite a bit of previous history. No doubt both sides have been at fault.
