johnnytheboy
Synthetic transmission fluid is the best of all, brake cleaner aerosol for barrel scrub
BrowningB525
Wasn't there a story a while back of wd40 causing a rib to fall of or barrels part company?! Think the solder can soften, either a myth or huge amounts of the stuff. I really would expect this to be false, or the solder to be really poor. WD40 isn't a great penetrating oil, so I would be surprised if it got between solder and steel.

figgy
Youngs 303 goes to jelly in the tin if left as mine did.
Dougy
I use a cloth covered in johnsons baby oil for a good rub all over. I just lurrv the smell. Or an old cloth that's been soaked in a light oil that I keep in a plastic bag in my cleaning box. Been in there year's. Starting to fall apart now. JohnfromUK
I use Youngs 303 as the cleaner, but it is really a solvent cleaner. It's not the same stuff it once was (different smell as well), but it is still great for clearing the fouling. Rumour was that one of the original ingredients fell foul of EU regulations, but I don't know if that is true or not. Another traditional Parker Hale offering, like the Rangoon oil above
