dodeer
Anyone sent a gun via an RFD with the above company and had it go missing before?
countryman
I had to send my Daystate back with them, it was on a next day delivery but was not delivered next day. After spending about an hour trying to talk to someone at the depot I was told that it had not been paid to go on next day delivery despite my ticket from the driver saying next day. I am still waiting for my gun to come back, hopefully with no hassle.
dodeer
Well they've mislaid (lost) a rifle of mine being sent to another RFD. Was sent 10 days ago.
countryman
So what are they doing about it. This is what's worried me about sending, it's obvious what's in the box for some one who may take a fancy to it.

countryman
Well I hope it turns up for you. If this had happened to me I would say I was going to get the Police involved if it does not turn up.
JohnfromUK
If you are 'aware' it has gone AWOL, my inclination would be to advise your licensing dept, if only to keep yourself in the clear. In some ways it is similar to a theft (might possibly be a theft) in that your firearm is now potentially in the wrong hands. I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of freight via Parcelforce and RFDs, but in the event that a firearm has gone missing significantly beyond the expected 'arrival window', my understanding of the firearms rules is that anything 'missing' should be reported. dodeer
Police are aware
rbrowning2
Let's just hope that incidents like this do not make parcelforce change their policy on delivering firearms as they are the only courier that will do so now after tnt stopped last November. neil w
My understanding Is, your rfd - you're rifle was put In his ledger. So he and you have notified, your firearms licensing. So therefore the gun Is not your possession.
bruno22rf
Yes many years ago the sorting office lost my .22lr and showed little interest in finding it. I discovered the name of the Units Manager and rang him telling him that I had no choice but to give his name to the Police as they treated potential firearms theft very seriously - gun turned up 2 days later. dodeer
Well after ten days it turned up, box beaten to death but gun ok. Pretty shocking service and to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped carrying firearms and then everyone would be screwed because no other courier takes them
Guest
I am sure there are other carriers than parcelforce .all dealers surely don't all use parcel force .

Guest cookoff013
i had a slight nightmare a few years ago. my forend of my beloved merkel got broke, it was a very simple fix but my local RFD decided to make a total hash of the situation. i handed him the forend and the metal that broke to have fixed. he supposedly sent it away.... After a very long 6 or 12 months nothing happened. Then i started having enquiries into whats taking so long. the RFD sudgested it had gone missing in the "post", and i should sue the postman (it gets worse.) asfter communicating with the post office, i hadnt a leg to stand on, as i didnt pay for the service. so i contacted the importer, they hadnt recieved anything. as the investigation got deeper the RFD became quite abusive. afterall he`d lost an expensive part. i ended up having to have a soliciter write a letter as the lines of communication were "severed". i then had to deal with his wife, who couldnt really believe it got this bad. it got things moving though. the deal was agreed, that i`d send my gun through another RFD as the original rfd "lost his rfd status", for a new forend and a straight rebuild. i sent it off with another RFD with a letter to the RFDexplaining what services i wanted (shipping gun) and another RFD would settle the rebuild bill. i waited 3 months. then i finally got the call. the bill came to a straight £800, and it ready. the previous ex rfd said to pay the bill and re-claim the money from them (i'm glad i didnt do that), the shipping rfd decided they`d want more money, handling fee and finance for an invoice that shouldnt have gone to them, because it went to the first RFD also. then the first RFD refused to pay the bill after agreeing it. hoping to avoid it totally. The RFD who had my gun was being slightly odd. he seemed to think he could claim my gun as payment for the repair bill. i understand he was out of pocket, for the shipping.(i paid the shipping). then we ended up in a situation that the original rfds actions, i had lost possesion of my shotgun, very annoying. the shipping RFD, wanted an invoice paying that had nothing to do with him and tried to claim my very expensive gun for a £800 rebuild. the original RFD was "persuaded " to stick to his promise. because his actions meant i paid for a gun from him and had it taken away. i think it was under some purchase of goods act that persuaded him. eventually he paid the bill after a 2 week dead line the second rfd set to pay the bill. the original RFD paid the invioice to the importers / repair, because thats who the deal was originally arranged. so i was to pick up my merkel. got to the second RFD, and they refused to give it to me. straight refused. they wanted another £800 ! that was contested by the importers getting in contact with them and having a "chat". so after another week i picked up my gun. what a palava ! after a few months went by. i randomly bumped into an ex employee from that RFD, he just straight out there said, they picked up my forend and threw it straight in the bin. they just didnt care. they knew what it was and whos it was and it went in the bin anyway. cost them £800. i`ll never ever forget the tirade of abuse i got, and it wasnt pleasent at all. turbo33
Easiest way to loose something, send it Parcel Farce. Thats a little unfair...............they often seem to enjoy breaking it and then delivering the bits
