Thursday I was invited to shoot a new farm based on reputation, obtained the key to the estate and drove down to the two hundred acres of rape. It was a bitterly cold day but I had to perform . I arrived at the fields no birds evident, spent an hour walking round no birds . Drove to look at other farms returned at 14.00 no birds walked round again nothing , no poo on the fields or under trees at 15.00 sent a rocket up and approx twenty birds lifted out of a distant wood. Returned home.

Friday, requested to shoot a field within two miles of the local town centre, next to a school , with a stables at the far end and a large allotment set up on the other edge. Arrived at 11.00 with two hundred feeding around a tree in the centre of the field. Walked them off and set up under the tree with the wind in my face as the only safe way I could shoot it. Chickend out and used the Hushpower with 28gram 7s. birds came in from my rear six feet from the hide on the way through the pattern and away before I raised the gun. Others hovered in the decoys and were dropped. It went very slow but at 15.30 a helicopter spooked about one hundred and fifty of another rape field over the ridge. I ended the day with twentysix birds.

Saturday, picked up DB in the rain and off we set to find these elusive birds. I'd had a heads up from Zeus a Pigeon Watch member of some birds in an area I shoot so we headed out. The rain had stopped and we arrived at the field to find twenty birds down and plenty of damage. We risk assesed the field and with a stables and public footpath running allong the only edge you could shoot we gave it a miss. Thanks Zeus.

We looked at other fields but with the overnight rain the access would be poor. So we drove back to our regular haunts and found a few in the trees on another farm and decided to give it a go. It was now 11.00 and we had birds returning straight away. As it was the last weekend of the season we had lots of game shoots all around us so the kept sending us birds we finished at 16.00 and collected one hundred and two birds with George earning his keep by picking up birds from a small spinney behind us. So a good end to the weekend.

Excellent

I wonder if your one of the most successful pigeon shooters in the U.K. At the minute ? Surely there's not many folk shooting these kind of bags at this time of year,

The new Archie Coats maybe ? Ha

Thank you for observation, I tend to select which fields to shoot from previous experience and tend to shoot between 7 and 10K over nine months of the year. I'm just an average guy far from a mega star.

Royboy loves PC.

Those of us who are keen pigeon shooters do appreciate the effort involved in regularly shooting decent bags.

Haha I'm a lover not a hater

For me to go out at this time of year and shoot half a dozen is brilliant never mind 100

Unfortunately work and beer gets in my way of big bags

Lack of pigeons and the skills of PC gets in my way for big bags. Well done PC another excellent result. You may need to get some 3rd party verification in the light of some of the photo threads on here :lol:

seriously well done. Do you give lessons?

My sales invoices will verify the numbers??

I do not give lessons but I do give advice and hints in my posts which will enable you to improve your shooting
