macca2017
Hi All, I'm new to Pigeon Watch. I have returned to pigeon shooting after a 30yr break (various reasons for this). So fully kitted out with decoys, magnet, flapper... and so on, My first 3 outing have resulting in the following bags- 1,3,1 so hardly prolific, it can only get better as they say. My permission is mainly over OSR, just one question...how long is it before the rape is too long to shoot over?
aga man
Welcome to the forum macca2017. The answer to your question will depend on the weather and when the farmers apply nitrogen to it. Depending also whereabouts in the country you are i would say late March early April the rape will be too tall to shoot. Keep an eye on the low/thin patches though as they can be a real draw to pigeons for months to come.
kippylawkid
Welcome to the forum. Good advice as ever from Aga Man. Keep persevering with the rape, you will learn the flight lines and likely hide positions on your patch. Hopefully you will be rewarded at harvest time when it can be easier to make bigger bags. wymberley
Welcome. You'll be pleased to hear that they're still just as unpredictable as they were 30 years ago.
