islandgun
Probably old hat but might be useful to someone, Ive been missing a lot of birds in the last fowling season so have been reading up on the techniques of shooting including fit, mount and ,lead etc. anyway happy with all that, I wanted to practice in doors but needed a moving target, so a scan of ebay produced a childs revolving light, battery fed police type, I blanked off the main light and taped a small cree type torch to the top, this lens was also blanked of apart from a small hole, Reduce the room light turn on the rig and you have a small goose head size light revolving around your room, allowing you to pull on a clay substitute in your jim jams, if this has already been invented then fill your boots
JDog
Ingenious, but unless your bedroom mounting (of the gun of course) involved you wearing your normal winter clothing it might have been pointless.

Imstruggling to visualise what to buy. Thanks for your positiveness. Ive given up trying to post photos and links on here but here is the Ebay number 150952028345, type it into E bay search, you will be rewarded with a childs revolving light £10 it runs on batteries, I removed the dome and covered the concave lens with duct tape then taped a torch the top, Im sure there are better ones out there but this was just a try, the light revolves at a nice speed for me and it is relatively easy to pick up the light, mount and follow through (or whatever style you use) the laser pen also came from ebay 381760113856 cost £3. good luck

Brilliant mate.. you may have a point about mad but "time on my hands" , I wish.... actually been doing a bit of research today on the old google is my friend and came up with "arrow laser shot" a company that markets a laser torch that fits in your barrel which is ten times the cost without the added bonus of a moving target if you want the moving target its in the many hundreds, but it does have a lovely backdrop

islandgun
Well i didnt realise that the DIY forum was quite so demanding, I bought a very nice T Wild with 3" chambers and used it all last fowling season in place of my 10 bore, ( I usually get an average of 1 shot per flight, now my cartridge to kill ratio became quite bad with 95% missed, I decided to look into the cause, I bought some lovely old books by some geezers called Churchill and Lancaster respectively and some others, they spoke of gun fit, mount, swing etc, all made perfect sense and with my last shot of the season killed a grey stone dead, the old geezers kept banging on about dry gun mounting and practice and more practice in the quiet of your own home. This often involves pointing at a spot on your wall, doing this over and over becomes quite monotonous, so i devised a method that allows the spot too move, I didnt want to spend a large amount so went in cheap it became apparent that this harmless inexpensive pastime could be enhanced with the addition of another light allowing me to track the original light with some accuracy, I decided to share this eureeka moment with my chums on PW, the rest is history. I dont think I will be sharing any more ideas, which is a pity because im devising a small merry go round with cups to place dead ducks, with wings a flapping whilst emitting a loud come hither quack, I wonder now if I had made the original moving light depict poor people or immigrants there might have been more interest,... gamekeeper1960
May I just add one small thing into the equation (and hopefully it's not hanging out of his pj's) if you are following the light then how are allowing for lead ? islandgun
May I just add one small thing into the equation (and hopefully it's not hanging out of his pj's) if you are following the light then how are allowing for lead ? good question, personally I am favouring the Churchill technique, concentrating on stance and mount and just letting my eyes and left hand do the instinctive following through and lead, I hasten to add i am not an expert (in fact the opposite) which is why I started doing it, it takes a few moments to turn on the light and a few minutes practice before i've had enough, I have found it helps, if nothing else just mounting etc, no doubt the many experts disagree.... such is life
Wb123
May I just add one small thing into the equation (and hopefully it's not hanging out of his pj's) if you are following the light then how are allowing for lead ? I'm anticipating this will be of use for stance and mount practice, with some use for a nice smooth swing. My plan is to see how 'see the bird, stance, mount and swing through' works. I struggle to see how practicing judgement of lead in the bedroom is possible without much more expensive kit. If we could find a way to shoot without leaving the bedroom none of us would ever go outside, it would be like being thirteen again. figgy
Why 13 ? You can do your mount practise to your light and it will help you get a consistent mount and help with your swing, the only problem is you get used to one speed. See if you can get it closer to a wall for faster target and further away for slower and alter the height and angles. You can buy Dry fire a very good kit to link to a computer that follows the light emitted from your gun and let's you see how you shot the electronic projected target. The dryfire kit looks very nice but it is quite a lot more expensive than i am willing to pay. The discoball and postage was about a tenner. Even the poverty spec Dryfire looks to be a grand plus once you buy a suitable computer.

Wb123
how did you get on with the multiple lights bud ? also did you try the laser light in the barrel mullarkey It gives lots of different choices of target without having to rearrange kit. Some high on the ceiling going slower, some low, quick to reverse direction when you want to swing the other way. Need a brighter bulb ideally for it though, I've put silage tape around the lenses to make smaller lights which has dimmed it a bit much. I have a laser boresighter but don't feel it adds much (mostly as the gun shoots so flat the laser dot is behind the bead).
islandgun
Thats great, I might get a disco ball as well as the single light is a tad predictable, will also look into a boresighter...
Wb123
Two much brighter bulbs was a useful adaptation. A speed adjuster is the only thing left to try and make.
