Highlander
I caught this snippet on the radio early this am. Apparently a Lothian council have a school that’s closed down and is mothballed only they leave all the lights on 24/7. When asked why a spokesperson said it’s in case burglars break in, we don’t want them to hurt themselves and sue us. Can you believe this ****? Isn’t it about time we, the rate/tax paying citizens of this country, had the power to name and shame the cretins responsible for such bs AND get them sacked from their jobs without having to pay compensation for a job done so badly? Bigbob
I read that in a local paper as well political correctness gone mad
Oly
Sounds like people who don't know the law and Health & Safety Regs. In my work I deal with public safety on riverbanks - some people want us to fence all the rivers off from the public in case they fall in, or get swept off by floodwaters...but it's all in the word "reasonable" and on those grounds we say that it is reasonable to assume that people would expect the ground to be uneven and that rivers can be dangerous, as they are in a nautral environment. In this case it is unreasonable to think that burglars would hurt themselves in a darkened school which they had just broken into. Plus...don't believe everything you read in the papers!! MC
And if you did then it wouldn't take long for the rest of the crooks to get the message, apart from the Basildon chavs who are too thick to realise that if they steal they will be shot. But then it's a small price to pay.

pin
At one of my offices the building is shared with an inner city London council. This isn't its head office, just one of many of its offices. The other day I noticed 2 Roles Royce's, about 7 or 8 Porsches and countless high end Audi's and BM's How can council office workers be affording cars like this? MC
It isn't a planning dept is it pin? If it is then they probably throw away plenty of used brown envelopes (allegedly)
pin
Funnily enough I do see a lot of people carrying things which would hold drawings or plans. Come to think of it I it might be planning up there, I will have a wander and see.

pin
These guys come and pull you out of your burning house and save you and your family, putting their lives on the line. Let them sleep on the floor if the want to, for pity's sake. Better yet ask them if they want new chairs, or let them have what they want to sleep on Actually, I have another one. Same building I was on about earlier. Many floors, has one of those automated basket things for the lads to clean the windows. Before the council moved in the cleaners put up a few signs with "men working overhead" signs. We all used our eyes and brains and didn't walk underneath the lads cleaning. Now the council have moved in, I **** you not :- The management company have produced a leaflet (several languages on it) which tells people about the window cleaning work, and why it is required. They have trucked in loads of those metal fence things like they use for crowd control at concerts and stuff. The whole area has been signed to death with alternative routes marked out. I wonder how much more this costs?

badgerman
the ammount of pc **** and health and safety intervention actually pains me, i just can't get my head around it. but rather than us all giving our stories, what can you do about it? what could a government do? - thats quite a sincere question by the way, cos i do give it some thought and i'm not really sure how it can be reversed. Axe
It can be reversed by the judge. That guy that determines the outcome of the case. The one that says yes we'll award you damages because there was no sign to tell you to use your common sense. He's the one to blame, the one that allows this all to happen. This PC nonsense is all because people live in fear of being sued. Nothing more, nothing less. The craziest PC thing I heard was several months back when the lady owner of a bakers/tea room shop was told by the office of Fair Trading to rename her pig cakes as they simply didnt contain any pig product. The fact that the 'Pig Cakes' made to look like a pigs face, had nothing to do with it. what about Ginger Bread Men! Its just rediculous! I think a new name should be given to this type of thing, as this is way past the domain of Political Correctness.
