wymberley
I'm old enough to remember, although no longer the specific figures, how much shotgun cartridges used to cost in relation to ones' wages. Using the same criterion, they're now somewhat cheaper and I'm happy to pay a reasonable amount for a half decent make. I also like to buy British. No, I'm not totally naive and am fully aware that with the odd exception most makers don't qualify as such, but at least they do involve UK workers earning wages which is currently no different from many other industries in the UK. So, why do they treat us, their customers, so abysmally? The lad and I have just spent £1k with one maker. There were no real details, apart from the shot size and load published - and which is beginning to look as though the former weren't quite accurate although this is common with the particular maker and can only be determined by looking at the figures published on their web-site. As, in this instance, there weren't any, I thought it reasonable to ask. Did so and got the answer I was half expecting in view of previous experience. Now, I wouldn't cut of my nose to spite my face and would have continued to buy my favourite pigeon cartridge from them. I won't now though as they've stopped making them so will shop elsewhere in future. Another maker published some details which didn't seem right. I asked if this was correct or could there have possibly been a mistake. My e-mail was automatically noted as received. A few days later the details were amended - which made the product look a far more attractive proposition than the original. I got no reply so over a weekend I gave them a gentle poke with a not too sharp pointy stick. First thing Monday I got a reply to that one asking what I was on about. I explained the sequence of advents. It looks as though my first, although received, could have got 'lost'. I have yet to receive a reply to this latter one. The final phrase in the paragraph above applies here. Fortunately, there is a UK company which does make what I prefer to use and should you have a query the UK Sales Manager will always reply - often within minutes. Is there something in the air in Hull?

saddler
Many thanks for setting me up. I thought that there was something fishy. Ba dum, tish.... Yes. Worked in the UK trade. ZERO interest in customer loyalty...only how they can meet the monthly sales target. A strange situation when the prime product is firearms, so the ammo makers DO have a motivation there that as their product is a consumable then people NEED to restock when they've used it! The bigger firms lose sight of this. For better ideas look ag the dealer network changes in the USA...the big firms are killing off the grass roots network of small "mom & pop" dealers (on which these big firms were founded) Too many number crunchers calling the shots! Rather listen to you, Mate. You were dead right back along - even more so now - when you said boxes should be marked with #pellets/oz. They can't even voluntarily sing from the same hymn sheet regarding velocity figures so perhaps it wouldn't be a bad thing if both aspects were made obligatory. It would make things a damned sight easier for shooters to chose what they want and be sure that that is what they're getting.

johnnytheboy
Gents this subject is of interest to me, I'm I correct in saying this about cartridge manufacturers that are perceived to be U.K. Based companies? Hull Cartridge - UK Owned Proper Cartridges - UK owned Lyalvale - ? Gamebore - owned by Kent in America Eley- owned by maxam in Spain Caledonian Cartridges - owned by maxam in Spain

rbrowning2
And saga, melior, gb, venatum Cartridges And your point is? Even the UK owned manufactures are buying most if not all of their components from outside the UK.
johnnytheboy
I don't have a point just updating tightchoke on the extent of maxams ownership!
TIGHTCHOKE
Used Rio's for years before finding PROPER CARTRIDGES, not used saga, melior, gb or venatum cartridges.
johnnytheboy
Despite having shot 1000s of George's cartridges and Telling everyone about them I don't have that option anymore! Doesn't particularly want to sell them to me after publish my cartridge velocity tests on here as it affected business apparently!

johnnytheboy
Just put into search cartridge velocity tests, I have a nearly a years worth sitting in the cuboard to test but our local clay ground who let me do it has been bulldozed so I need to find somewhere else to do it, some exciting cartridges there to test as well, pure copper shot etc
