racing snake
Hi all, Quick question to any FAC holders in the North Wales Police jurisdiction: has anyone had a centre fire rifle conditioned for ALQ? I've currently got an open ticket for HMR and .223 but a couple of local farms have been having trouble with crows taking th eyes out of lambs being born outside, or not long after birth. I had a visit up to one of the farms yesterday but a lot of the birds were very difficult to get near because of the exposed nature of the land and a lack of suitable cover. I'm assuming the conditioning of the .223 for fox only isn't something that's adopted by all forces, and another example of the arbitrary processes we're all subjected to in one form or another. Fancy a nice shiny 204 Ruger but just don't see the point of getting another CF if I can't get vermin conditions for it. I will get in touch with my FEO but just wondering if any NWP FAC holders have any centre fire conditioned for anything other than fox? Thanks all. ShootingEgg
I am in the AVS area and when asking for my cf i asked for alq aswell as deer(243) fox(22.250) my 22 and 17 are "vermin" control, so anything that comes under that is allowed.. Strange if you are tied to one species per rifle....
racing snake
Thanks shootingEgg, yes it is a strange condition here in NWP. One thing I haven't yet been able to confirm is whether it's a specific .223 set of conditions or whether it's the case for all centre fire calibres (obviously with the exception of deer also for the larger calibres). racing snake
I'll get a pic of my ticket up later, but the wording on the .223 conditions are; "The .223 rifle, sound moderator and ammunition to which this certificate relates shall be used for the destruction of foxes and for zeroing on suitable land over which the holder of this certificate has permission to shoot with this class of firearm from the person by whom shooting rights are owned, leased or otherwise obtained. The ammunition referred to in this condition, either possessed or to be accuired may include expanding bullets ********************End of conditions********************

My .243 & .204 has this. My other rifles, .22lr / .22 Hornet are also AOLQ conditioned
Kalahari
Talk to them nicely and get it opened up to AOLQ. They are usually quite helpful. David.
racing snake
Thanks for the advice chaps, much appreciated. I seem to remember it cropping up during the interview, regarding ALQ for .223 but can't remember the details. I've fired an email over to my FEO for his opinion. David - yes fully agree, NWP are really good to deal with. Seeing some of the stories you read on here I'm eternally greatful for that. WelshMike
Dyfed Powys use AOLQ and I have this on my 4 rifles. The first time I asked them to put it on they did ask what AOLQ meant
racing snake
Thanks for the replies gents, and good news! I dropped an email over to my FEO this afternoon and I've just had a reply telling me my new cert with ALQ for .223 is in the post! I've read many a sorry tale regarding licensing issues here in the past but I just cannot praise North Wales Police highly enough. Those crows had better get some flack jackets ready! steve_b_wales
The .204 is an excellent calibre for long distance Crows etc, and brilliant for Foxes. Very flat shooting. I reload for mine and have been using 32gr Sierra Blitzkings with H4895, but I'm going to work a load for 39gr, as 32's are getting hard to get hold of.
