BrowningDJC
A good family friend passed away sadly late last year, my father always used to look after his defender which he took great pride in. Went to my fathers this evening and noticed the defender standing in the workshop, asked what it was in for and was told our friends wife had given us the defender as he wanted us to use it for shooting, didn't know what to say. johnnytheboy
It's very sad, but at least you have something to remember your friend with!
BrowningDJC
Yes exactly, might treat it to a galvanised chassis at some point. Wants a few bits tidied up but the engine has only done 45,000 genuine miles. Just didn't expect it.
WinchesterDave
Sorry to hear about your family friend - but what a lovely surprise and something you can remember him by too!
four-wheel-drive
I have often thought this myself if you have something that you like and you keep it in good condition could be almost anything but what happens when you die I would hate to see my pride and joy just sold off cheaply to any tom **** or harry. If the money is not needed then I think that I would rather give it to someone who would make good use of it I was looking on the internet yesterday about a man who bought a brand new Toyota 4x4 in 1984 and after using it for a short time he decided that he would keep it until he retired when he would go on a road trip around the US. It may seem strange but what he did was make a large packing case and lined it to keep out the damp and put it in the garage anyway as life goes he died some years latter and nobody bothered to open the garage until this year when they opened it and found this car as new only over thirty years old what would you do with it it would be tempting to use it but if they did it would end up rusting like the rest of them. forgot to say to the old guy RIP
Pistol p
Get out there and give it a brass carpet. I think your friend would have wanted that.

Davyo
It's a privilege and a honour to be left something regardless of it value. My life long friend Tom passed at Xmas,we had just started jamming again after years of not playing. His twin daughters brought me his guitar,I don't play it but it's hanging on my wall and I twang it every time i leave the house.Treasure what you've been left, use it but treasure it. Longstrider
He means "Fill it with empty shells" .. i.e. use it for shooting. Lots of shooting
BrowningDJC
Davyo you are right its a big honour. Its got a few small bits to be done then a new Richards chassis is on the cards. Its always wanted for nothing and was extremely well looked after, he would have wanted that to carry on.
