digger
I saw those Norfolk. Had to check I wasn't reading the wrong magazine ! Worst possible advert for guns they could carry imo. If I saw someone using one I would pack up and head home
keg
Seriously......don't worry about it, It's called off topic for a reason, we get to chat about anything, If nothing else you started a debate on something other than politics and that can only be good That was part of the reason for posting, makes a change from the abuse on the rest of social media about the election. Grammar banter is always fun. I'm not a pedant in any way, it just stood out. On another subject, anyone going to the Harewood Gamefair at the weekend? Greenhunter
There are worse grammatical errors made constantly and consistently than the misuse of an apostrophe s. Like the confusion around 'off' and 'of', 'ov' and 'have and the old nutmeg....there and their. I think though, that text-speak has lots to answer for and there is the consideration that English is an evolving language so changes in grammatical rules will change from time to time. I wonder if someone from the sixteenth century would cope with 21st century writing! My understanding is that an apostrophe s indicates 'belonging to' OR an apostrophe anything indicates missing letters ( don't, isn't etc). So, in this case autos and auto's are both correct! racing snake
Last one I saw wrong was on a new local authority sign. The author obviously had half an idea with plural and possessive but still got it wrong. It read - Childrens' Playground. keg
I once read that correct grammar is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack, off a horse or, your uncle Jack off a horse...
Cranfield
The thing that surprises me about this thread, is that anyone is still reading the Shooting Times.

Bumble
Why would auto's be the contraction of automatics? It isn't requiring a possessive apostrophe, merely a contraction of the original word, therefore 'autos' seems correct to me.
keg
I know, meant to put a backslash between the two or did i miss something else? Happy to be shot down.
Danger-Mouse
I know, meant to put a backslash between the two or did i miss something else? Happy to be shot down. It's not a grammar issue. The comma is what changes the meaning/interpretation of the sentence. I wouldn't normally have pointed it out, but given the subject of the thread . . .
