30-6
On one of my permissions, crops are rotated, but seen a new one. Single stem, about 1 foot tall at the time, sparsely planted not in rows, leaves like a dock plant shape but purply in colour. What is it ? TIGHTCHOKE
Either ask the farmer or give us a picture to work from!
30-6
Yep I intend to ask him, just thought I'd ask on here. Only get to see him about 3 or 4 times a year, as he has land in several locations so he is everywhere. I only phone him if I deem it important. CharlieT
I can't think of any commercially grown arable crop that is broadcast and not drilled. Are you sure the field hasn't been left fallow and they are actually Docks that are sprouting up?
30-6
No, there was a crop on there last year. The one I am asking about has "brassica" like leaves and the stem is bare looking at the lower half. When I seen it, it was during a dry period. aga man
Could it be some sort of kale or red mustard?
CharlieT
Could it be some sort of kale or red mustard? Red Mustard was one of my thoughts but I can't understand why it was broadcast.
figgy
Might it be a green manure or cattle feed crop. There are all sorts on new crops coming out, what does quinoa look like. After looking online purple mustard would be my guess from your description, it's broadcast seed too. Edited June 29, 2017 by figgy
