AVB
Oh wise PW community. I have a bog standard hotmail address. However I need a couple of e-mail addresses for my new business long the lines of avb@xxxxx.co.uk where xxxx is the name of the company. How do I go about getting one? A quick google shows that there are lots of companies that will create one for you for less than £5/month. Is it that simple or am I missing something else that I need. Thanks
Simonc_here
You need to register a domain, the xxxx.co.uk bit in your address. Then you can use one of the many email hosting sites to deal with the email side of it for you. The email hosting site may offer registering the domain for you as well for an additional fee if you haven't got one. If you already have a domain and a website, you will probably find you already have access to some limited email hosting. simon Edited July 19, 2017 by Simonc_here
BrowningB525
Go to lcn.com and register your company domain name. Then click on webmail. You'll need the domain name for a website anyway. You don't get masses of email storage (100mb) but it'll get you started.

Not many people in the commercial world trust a Hotmail account and for many years I've used 123-reg.co.uk for my email hosting with a .co.uk address with hosting and mail forwarding which costs not a lot BUT you have to set it up to send your mail to appear to be being sent from AVB@xxxx.co.uk As an alternative, why not just register a new gmail account like (for example AVBpimpservices@gmail.com) for free which says it all, no set up hassle and no ongoing charges? Works fine. Edited July 19, 2017 by Eyefor

old'un
First do you have your own domain name? if not, register one with someone like 1&1, once you have done that you can take one of their email accounts....https://www.1and1.co.uk/email-hosting Having your own domain name email address looks more professional, plus other businesses can look to see who or what business is behind the domain name...https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=donaldjtrump.com
Eyefor
Lcn is the same as 123reg. Not Hotmail. Wasn't aware of that sorry and I was not implying Lcn was Hotmail. I was just suggesting the alternative host that I use. Apologies.
ips
I do not believe companies do not trust hotmail type email. I have a domain name email which I use for invoicing and stuff but I use an outlook email for general business communication mainly because it works better across devices such as my mobile. I use "Ian.businessname@outlook.com
Me matt
I do my business email address and website through Go Daddy. Costs about £85 per year for hosting, email adresses & website builder - can update or alter website from my phone. Easy to use, not had an issue yet. It's simple, free and works.
lord_seagrave
I am only(!) 36, nevertheless, I am still suspicious of businesses without landline numbers, and likewise those without registered domains. For the sake of a couple of quid a week, IMHO it's a no-brainer. LS
dbob
If you want to appear professional then don't use gmail or outlook email addresses. It makes it look like your business is too tight to spend money on a proper email address. For most businesses it's the main method of contact so do it properly, get a domain and a proper email address at that domain, it doesn't have to cost much. Get a decent IMAP account and it will sync across all your devices.
