Gordon R
Youngest lad has a KTM SX-F 450 and we have a few spare wheels for it. One has a Talon Carbon hub, which was expensive. The black rim has paint chips by the dozen. I don't know whether to retain the black or go back to aluminium. I considered powder coating - not cheap and chips too easily. I have considered getting it bead blasted and then clear coating the aluminium. I did spray a rim black, some months ago, but the finish was flimsy to say the least. Anyone re-furb a motocross wheel? Ideas welcome.
Albert 888
I have been trawling the Internet for wheels and weighing up my options, a firm on eBay powder coat your old rims and respoke for around £70 a wheel. Im guessing your after 21" and 19",I'm after 21" 18" for enduro. After all my searching I have decided to go for a newer bike,if I can't get any good ones at the right price. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Gordon R
Albert - I got a bit carried away a few months ago, we had 7 spare wheels. I got rid of them, but have bought another 3. The wheels on his KTM are the silver with a black line - as is our rear spare. We have two 21" front - both Talon hubs - one with an aluminium rim, the other is black. I think the firm on Ebay charge £70 to powder coat, £70 to re-spoke (spokes are extra) Edited August 6, 2017 by Gordon R
team tractor
Central wheel in Birmingham are excellent and no doubt probably made them at some point. They make hundreds a week or used to. Off road world is the shop side of it . They are the biggest in the country
Dunkield
I had the wheels and hubs of my bike blasted and painted black by a specialist, not sure exactly what they use but it is rock hard. I've heard powder coating isn't anywhere near as tough. Edit. As it is alloy you could maybe have it hard anodised? If you are in any way handy you can lace and true bike wheels. I wasn't going to do mine but got talked into it, so bought some nice stainless spokes and got on with it. It really wasn't hard at all and very satisfying. This a road bike not an mx bike. Gordon R
Dunkfield - thanks. A couple of mates have said that powder coating would be too brittle - chipping when a tyre was fitted. I have built about a dozen wheels, lacing the spokes - after watching a You Tube video. I built my own rig and found it surprisingly easy. I don't think my current standard would be good enough for road bikes, but well within tolerances for off road. PS - that does look impressive. Del T
I had mine anodised purple but that was years ago. It looked awesome and lasted very well.

Gordon R
Thanks for that - nice and local. Just realised who I think he is - Sandy Holt's brother? He re-spoked a CR500 Honda wheel for me in 1995 (approx.) Edited August 8, 2017 by Gordon R
