Oh mate I'm so jealous, the interior of a car is far more important too me than the exterior. It looks a nice place to be and I had no doubt the techno would be miles ahead.

What surprise me as far as other manufactures go,is why are they so far behind?

Other 'car' manufacturers are hampered by their legacy. The same as Banks and their legacy (ageing) technology. The new 'challengers' don't have any of that and can start from completely a greenfield. And it takes an innovator like Elon Musk to be running the show. I am sure there will be some hiccups along the road with this car but it's not as though Land Rovers are the most reliable cars on earth is it!

Picked car up yesterday. Very impressed. Actually most of common functions can be operated from the steering wheel. You only really need the screen for functions that you would use when parked.

The voice control is also very impressive. I think we have all had experience of car voice control that just doesn't work. This one does without the need to train the system to your voice - "navigate to home", "play Amy Winehouse" (it comes with a free spotify account) etc. just works. That is one of the biggest differences with Tesla. It is a technology company not simply a car manufacturer.

Good news. How long before you turned on the super turbo nutjob thermonuclear acceleration mode and hooned it down the road?

I am a virgin, and have never had experience (of car voice control).

What happens if there are two or more people in the vehicle expressing different opinions about which route to take, what music to play, etc? Does it obey the most recent command, or the person who shouts loudest, or is it clever enough (like the little dog on the HMV records) to identify the owner's voice?

Not long. It is frighteningly quick. It also is very steady having such a low centre of gravity. Although a high car the batteries are in the chassis so the weight is low.

Not sure being a virgin has anything to do with not having used voice control! Anyway, you have to press a button to start voice control. I just tell everyone else to shut up when pressing it.

Thought insanity mode took a while to get going around 15 minutes as the computers have to warm up the batteries. Watched a youbtube video of a fella in Norway having a few issues with his tesla model x but he had driven allover the country and tesla seem to keep fixing the car. Bound to have some teething troubles.

I had my first experience of range anxiety this morning. Car showed 17 miles of range left and 7 miles to Supercharger. Which is no different to having 17 miles of petrol and 7 miles to the petrol station. But I still got anxious about it when there was absolutely no need. The computer gives you a massive amount of infomation on actual and projected power consumption. It made it there with ease. Now enjoying coffee while it recharges (for free).

Thinking of an electric car and a very good point of the free charging stations until I though, every time you get a free charge your sat in a Costa spending!!!

True but I would probably have got a coffee anyway. I dont have a charger at home yet (other than 13amp which is very slow). When I get the charger installed at home I will have to pay but it will be about £7 for a full charge. Lets say I always charge at home and never at the free superchargers and lets assume that I get half the range than I would have done out of my Discovery. Thats £14 to fill up for the equivalent of a tank of diesel at £80.

Yes looking into a Nissan leaf or I3 for those reasons. Would almost pay for itself in fuel savings from charging at home and not counting free charge stations while shopping in Asda ect.

Not all charging is free through. Tesla superchargers are (but only Teslas can use them). Some others may be free but are typically quite slow. That said most other electric cars have a small battery so a short charge time.

So, out of interest, how far on average are you getting per full charge?

:shaun:

I haven't charged to 100% yet as you are advised to go to 80% for day to day charging and only go to 100% immediately before going on a trip as leaving the battery at 100% isn't good for it. But the computer says 180 miles at 80% (and I ran it down to 17 miles remaining yesterday and it was pretty accurate). So I would estimate 200-210 from a full charge. I only have the 75KwH battery though and the model X which is a big car. I would hope to eat a bit more out of it when my driving style adjusts fully.

My brother is an electric car fiend - hes a petrol head and what appealed to him was the instant power and speed.

Hes modus operandi is to get something ninja for himself and then some appalling shopper leccy wagon for the Mrs (fair enough etc).

What amazes me is the distance between Tesla and everyone else. Indeed, what everyone else has been knocking out, especially the en mass stuff reminds me of what Tomorrows World thought disabled kids would be driving themselves to school in in the 1970s.

I did have a client who had a tesla but binned it the next year for an M4 on the basis the Tesla was soulless to drive. I suppose there will be a transition of driving experience. Saying that, Tesla need to knock a super sports version out - I dont need all that voice activated driverless nonsense but Id go for something that could do 0-60 in 2 seconds, was AWD and you could get to the West Country in one go.

Ill give it a few years yet before jumping in. Its the way of the future alright.
