southeastpete
I have just been given a large set of red stag antlers. I'd really like to mount them with this kind of mount, http://classicantlermounts.com/ainc/imgad.jpg I'm pretty handy at making things from wood, but would really need to see one first to see how to mount them. Or find one similar for sale cheaply in the uk. How do others mount dropped antlers? Most uk offerings are for roe, but these are obviously substantially bigger and heavier at a few kilos each. Many thanks Pete
Benthejockey
I imagine if you drilled out a core and set some threaded bar inside with epoxy they youd be able to mount them to the skull cap mount with a bolt on the inside. All hidden and fully adjustable.
southeastpete
Any idea where to get a decent skull cap mount from? Large enough for good size antlers?
Walker570
Taxidermist supplier. The skulls used to come with the bolts already fitted ..drill antlers and some J&B job done.
Dunkield
You can get them on ebay, mine come from some bloke in Poland but they are for roe I glue a stud inside the skull long enough to go through the mount and then put a washer and nut on the back. southeastpete
Thanks, how much should I be looking at roughly, and if made for roe will they take large red antlers?
Dunkield
No you need a much larger plate Seems anywhere from about £20 up for large size. Just search for 'trophy mounting shield large' or similar
southeastpete
Thanks, I was more thinking of the head shaped part that the antlers would mount to before being attached to a shield.

Dunkield
Sorry i didn't read your original post properly I thought they were already on a skull. I have no idea how you would mount those, I would put a call into a friendly taxidermist. I send my stuff to Claire at Freedom taxidermy maybe she could advise?
