Peter_HMR
Im sorry it just made me laugh so much for some reason. Tbh sounds like hassle to me landy's are known to give trouble and a 3.5 ltr V8 is going to guzzle fuel. Dont know what your budget is like but thers a nissan x-trail 2.2 diesal in the FS section i dirve one of them and they're a fantasic yoke brilliant on the road and will go off road as well very good on fuel as well! Gully
I think LPG conversion gives you about 50% better economy in real terms (i.e. about the same mile per litre but cheaper fuel). I may be wrong as its a while since I nearly bought one. The tank takes up a lot of space though, especially if you keep the same fuel tank. If you want to hide the gas tank you need to replace the petrol tank with a reserve one but this costs much more. There's loads on the web on this and the costs/compromises you have to think about. Good luck, I've been thinking about doing this too so let me know how you get on.

If you carry out a LPG conversion that will in effect half your fuel bill. Average LP conversion is £1,200. LB

LB thanks LB just gonna have to do a few calculations and figure out if its worth it, in the end it will be cheaper then running a 200 or 300tdi, if i do the conversion. what are the best sized tanks to get, and where is the best place to fit them, i was thinking either direectly behind the middle bulkhead or replacing the becnhes with them. doesnt need to carry people in the back. not a bloody bus cheers flash
MC
Surely a TDi would be cheper on the insurance front? certainly would be on the fuel costs
flash
ive checked and a 200tdi is the same, near enough then the 3.5 v8, done with the same insurer. and with a LPG conversion the fuel cost would be better with the 3.5V8 will have to think about it first though. cheers flash
al4x
fuel cost will be marginal as LPG is a bit less efficient, also the engines like to warm up on petrol first. Be carefull what conversion you get and make sure its certified as otherwise it can affect your insurance. Personally I'd only buy one if I'd got plenty of money to throw at it when things went wrong. On the up side performance will be a lot better and it takes a lot to beat the noise. You can have one in the the spare tyre hole, under the vehicle either side of the sill, remove reguar fuel tank and fit a smaller one? You can pick and choose according to your pocket Flash. Previous post about which system to fit needs to addressed too. LB
fusion
Don't worry about the MPG, as being a Landrover most of it's time will be spent in the garage with the bonnet up.
dunganick
i looked at landies when starting as they are v cheap on insurance. However expect to pay what you save on spare parts or fuel. Not really worth it imho vauxhal corsa 1.0 group 1 car. insurance next to nothing and they arnt too bad
BSA Shaun
I looked at getting the V8 disco when I got my 200TDi. Worked out the milage I would get out of the diesel for £20 and the V8 LPG for £20. Diesel came out tops.
bunnybasher100
depending on how its driven you may push 25mpg with correct tyres so don't get big boots, you can also change the diff ratios which can reduce the fuel bills. and on the other hand you can look into hotwire injection systems normaly fited to the 3.9, these have a smart ECU. start and drive like a granny and it sets it self in economy mode started it and rev the nuts off it a sports mode comes on. gas is a good, but it has is problems, valves sticking due to lack of lubracation, air flow meters internals being blown up by back blasts. and 20% reduction of power and the list goes on. If you do think off getting one give RPI a ring they will help you make up your mind.
