It must be 25, years since I gave up my FAC.

I enjoyed shooting 303 and 762 just for my own pleasure, not competitive at Minsterley Ranges Shropshire.

I have the urge again but now out of touch.I

enjoy open sight shooting what calibre would you recommend for  paper punching as I doubt cheap surplus military 303 & 762 is available now.

Any thoughts please.

Thank you.

Are you looking at distance for the 7.62/303 or is it close target work?

No great problem finding cheap(ish) of either, but some is terrible.

Does smaller calibre/distance appeal?

I shoot loads in the field but also regularly at Bisley from 100-1000 yards with all sorts of calibres!

:good:

Which calibre do you find the best?

I’m tempted to try and to a bit more with the rifle just for fun

What could be more pleasurable than shooting a S.M.L E. Over open sights down the range .

Indeed, with all that history in your hands. The No4/No5 is a lot easier to focus on the sights with the rear apeture though if your eyes have deteriorated with age.

You can reload with decent enough PPU bullets at about 40p a pop. Using cast, and starting a new hobby in itself, would nearly halve the cost.

I've recently gone for .308 & .223 just for the availability of the different ammo, I think if I had the chance to shoot 1000 more often I would have went for the 6.5 creemoor but with probably only shooting 1000 a few times a year then I'll stick with the .308 for that and use my .223 for shorter work (I know the .223 can push 1000 too)
