Cranfield
Can anyone recommend a free Texas Hold' Em Poker game ? I do not want to play online with real players for money, just play for fun and improvement.
Newbie to this
Zynga poker is quite a good one, but you may need a facebook account to use it, I'm not sure though.
Delwint
Zynga, you don’t need a f/book for them
Munzy
Honestly don’t bother! If you are a complete beginner and you just want to get your head around rotation of the table, hand rankings etc then free poker is ok, however, if you are past all this and wanting to improve you simply won’t! You’ll be playing with people who don’t know what they are doing, four-betting pre-flop with 7-2 off suit and folding A-K because the colours don’t match! My main gripe with free poker games is that no player has anything invested which means they don’t care how they play or how long they sit for. You can’t hope to improve your game against players like this in an environment like this. You can play hands brilliantly and be beaten by idiots who have barrelled through all streets ignoring the warning signs because they are holding their favourite numbers 6 and 7 and then low and behold after playing your hand without fault the flop completes their straight and you bust. Likewise, you won’t improve your game by reading other players’ betting patterns because they are just chucking free chips in with no thought. You’re assuming there is logic to their actions and make judgements based on it and in fact they just felt like “500” was a round sort of number. And of course a significant part of poker strategy is the bluff. How are you going to put someone to a difficult decision and leave them sweating about whether to call your raise when the £1,000 bet is not real and so it doesn’t matter if they win or bust? As you can tell I used free poker to get my head around the rules years back and then realised I wasn’t learning anything because nobody was taking it seriously. Free poker is the equivalent of Manchester United training against school kids in the off season... when the season kicks off and they head off to the Emirates Stadium they are going to get mullered. Cranfield
I don't want to play with real people, I have experienced those that go "all in" on every hand, because its imitation money and they are idiots. I did find a game where you played against "computers", ie you were the only real person in the game. The opposition were supposed to have the various styles of a variety of different players. Unfortunately, I can't find that game Edited September 28, 2018 by Cranfield

Mice!
My old fella tried showing me and my brother how to play years ago, I'll quite happily watch on the telly and find it interesting, but my brother just kept throwing all his two pence pieces in every hand, learned nothing. Cranfield
No , it was a game you could choose "hard" or "easy", against 3 or 4 other players and you all start with $50,000. When I say you play against a computer, I mean you are not playing against human opponents. I appreciate the suggestions, and will have a further look around. My "real" gambling takes place physically in Casinos and my game is Blackjack and occasionally Roulette...............and when the fun stops, I stop. That’s funny for me it is the exact opposite way around! A purely mathematical game like blackjack can be played online whilst the ultimate casino game for me is poker. I don't play "live" very often but I do like the atmosphere. I only play tournaments though. The other casino games hold no interest for me. I've never ventured a single bet on any of them. Blackjack would be the most interesting of them but I'd want to learn to count cards. Baccarat I know nothing about (other than it being a card game). Munzy
@Cranfield Doesn’t answer your question regarding online play but I just remembered a great book which I found really useful. It is called Every Hand Revealed by Gus Hansen a Scandi pro. He basically took notes of every single hand he played during a major tournament and then compiled a book based on it. Essentially it is a detailed behind the scenes look at how he played each hand and why he made the decisions he did. Very insightful.
