fitzy
Recently bought this skb and wondering if there should be a piece of metal between the 2 barrels under the forend. If so, would its absence affect the integrity of the gun or merely be cosmetic? Edited November 9, 2018 by fitzy Spelling
panoma1
Yes and Yes......damp, rain ingress causing rusting of the tubes under the bottom rib!
oldypigeonpopper
hello, looks like the metal part that was made to go in the recess is missing, make something to replace it, i use to put youngs 303 inside the hollow on some spanish S/S to stop any rust from damp, squirt it in and let it travel both ends and let it drip out excess
Gunman
Variously called a "short rib " or "tail piece " . This is not a structural component ,but if this has come loose and been lost worth getting the rest of the ribs checked for soundness . There is a story about these gun which seem to be a modified version of the Webley & Scott 700 and very similar to the later Connecticut Shotgun RBL . fitzy
It looks a lot worse in the pic than in reality. Looks alot better now cleaned and oiled. Will see about getting it sorted. Thanks to all for the advice.
impala59
A picture of my much used 200E showing the fillet piece. IMHO these are great guns, single selective trigger for budget money. Also sold as Ithaca 200E (and 100E) and BSA. The Ithaca name puts a premium price on the exact same gun. Only problem I had initially were sticky extractors/ejectors. It was simply water (rust) ingress into the shaft, easy fix, cleaned and Solvol Autosol polished. After taking this photo it made me think that this gun could do with a refinish as it is showing its usage!
figgy
I wouldn’t bother having it replaced, just keep it oiled when you clean the gun and enjoy it.
fitzy
Thank you for the pic, very helpful. Might have a go at making a replacement when find the time.
Davester
This part has come loose in my SKB - looks like someone has tried to glue it back. Does anyone know how it supposed to be fixed? Is it supposed to be soldered?
impala59
Its a cosmetic piece and if cleaned regularly with solvents and oils, then any glue would eventually give up the ghost. I have sold my one but if I recall it was soldered in place. for a quick repair I would use a CA superglue and re-glue if it falls off after a while
enfieldspares
It is soldered. But be aware that if you try to re-solder and make a muck up of it you'll also risk your top rib and barrel loop coming loose. Either get a competent gunsmith to do it or don't touch it.
