Tryhunter
I currently own 7 acre of land with a pond and two mature woods. I’ve been thinking of how and what we could do to make this into an Airgun field target course. Information and ideas would be great. Could this turn into a business venture? i need people with genuine ideas or Evan business plans.
TIGHTCHOKE
Might help if you placed it in the Air Gunning Section. More likely to be read by Airgunners.
Mice!
I would imagine you could set up something good given that amount of space, might be worth googling air rifle ranges, see what comes up.

team tractor
A lot of ranges get sponsored by local gun shops. 40 shot courses plus a zero range . its £3 a shoot plus £20 a year at my local club. Not really profitable.

Ultrastu
Id love to set up a hft course on my own land .and have people come and compete .30 targets with as much variety as you can make . Id surgest you find a hft comp near you and go along and give it a go .see how it works .then ask the organisers of the shoot what they jave to do to make it viable. And go from there . Tryhunter
I think that’s what I’m going to do ultrastu, it’s definitely worth a little word. Something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
Ultrastu
Do you shoot hft or ft ? Ive shot a few series of hft and uksarc And have a bit of an idea of how a course should look .but no idea of the financial side of things . Where are you in the uk roughly? Mr.C
My club charges £25 a year subs and £5 a visit. I shoot HFT comps most weekends £7 or £8 a pop. Local clubs are run on a volunteer basis where the courses are usually set to UKAHFT rules by members. The grounds I shoot have very knowledgeable/experienced/evil course setters. The South is pretty good for places to shoot HTF but I know other areas of the country are sparse. Echo Stus question, where are you and have you done a search for local clubs? Tryhunter
Unfortunately I’ve never shot hft, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do but never got around to it, I’ve looked at a few courses on the net, doesn’t seem to be too hard to set up. it’s just I don’t know enough about it to go through with it yet. I’m from the north east Lincolnshire area. Definitely something I’m considering. Is it an all year round sport.? Summers are better for me. What do you mean by course setters. Are they who set out the targets.? How difficult does it need to be.? I have a good variety of land to make it interesting. how big does it need to be? Range ect.? timmytree
I would suggest you go and visit a few different venues to get an idea of what is entailed. The more disciplines of airgun shooting you can cater for, the more footfall you will get. So a basic plinking range, preferably with a covered shooting area for wet weather, a full HFT course, hopefully some indoor pistol ranges incorporating a basic clubhouse with access to a kettle and running water. With the area you have you could incorporate archery as well. Lincolnshire is relatively rural so many shooters will also have access to land anyway, that may mean keeping fees to a minimum to attract punters. Plinking range, generally out to 75 yards is ideal. HFT, Ideally woodland, I think 45 yards is the normal max range. Most HFT courses I've seen follow a path through or alongside woodland. I don't know what insurance requirements are if you want to run as a business but most airgunners will have their own insurance. Finally if the facilities are good there may be the option of hosting events such as the AAOC annual meet or similar get togethers which are held around the country. If you want any more information feel free to PM me, I'll do what I can to help.
Mr.C
@timmytree Beat me to it, think you've covered it. https://sites.google.com/site/ukahft/2017-format Is a link to the UKAFHT rules (currently trialing 2019 rules in Southern Hunters series) Edited December 29, 2018 by Mr.C
