Shot a pigeon last night.

Story goes like this.

Was out in the pouring rain, trying to create a trench in my gravel driveway to allow water to flow down to the rear end of the garden to avoid the olympic swimming pool style puddles that were forming.

Any way I am pout there getting slowly soaked and all I can hear is a pigeon cooing at me the entire time from a tree which is in front of me. Now I am no pigeon speech expert but I swear he is taking the rise out of me for getting soaked while he is sat in the relative comfort of his sitty tree.

Cursing to myself and getting the job done I swear to myself that when I am finished, form the relative comfort of my house he will be a gonner.

Long story short, get set up in my little ones bedroom and its a perfect level shot to him, aim up and crack, perfect head shot, drops like a stone..................then.................starts roly polying down the garden, never ever seen anything like it! He is stone dead and it must be the spasms, but had me sat there literally jaw on the floor as he rolls over and over head over heels!

Went down to get him and the pellet went straight through his eye. So was definitely a clean kill. Anyway he is now freezing his dod dah's off in my freezer with a few of his mates :good:

WIERD I TELL THEE! :good:

yes have done much the same with woodies over the years Shaun, headshot as you described has happened to myself and a couple of mates, when I was a kid my dad had a big kit of racing pigeons and when he had one that would not come down and be clocked off,(big bets in them days) he would grab it and wrench its head off! and dead pigeon would do the backwards roll which you have described, the head would usually still have its eyes blinking for a bit which used to terrify me! cheers bud. :D

It's strange how some animals can react to what you'd think was a fatal strike...

I once saw a particularly disturbing video of a bloke slicing a pig's head off with a chainsaw of all things... The "short version" went on for over 5 minutes, having been decapitated 1 minute into the video. All through the video, the pig kicked and rolled about furiously whilst pumping blood out all over the floor.

Apparently the full video lasted about 20 minutes with the animal kicking right to the end! Probably only died through lack of blood? Who knows!

Ach you know what I mean... There are folklore tales of chickens running about days after their heads have been chopped off... Whether that's true or not I don't know, but you'd think that in the pig's case, decapitation would be pretty instantly met with a LITTLE nerve twitching... not 20 minutes!

Surely if you put a pellet through its eyes you have actually missed its brain  I have done it myself, put one through both eyes, twisted its neck good and proper and stuck it in my pocket. 10 minuite later it started kicking and when i pulled it from my pocket in disbelief it tried to run off!! They always get a whack on the head now if they still have any life in them atall.

Entry wound was through one eye, it angled slightly upward after that :good:

Strange that, shot a bunny night before last and it did a kind of backflip and upside down moonwalk??

I am getting some real wierd ones at the mo.

Obviously I have seen the ususal twitches etc that come with headshots but the piggy and bunny I have recently given the last rights to have been really strange
