ph5172
After a bit of advice with regards to a load of scuba gear the old boy next door has asked if I could sell for him. I don’t have a clue and I don’t want him to get ripped off. Apologies if this is in the wrong section or not allowed - Cresssi Frog Fins - bowstone lead shot belt - gloves (1 set typhoon and 1 set hydro tech ) - ikelite dive torch - team oceanic 2 piece semi dry suit - bcd vest with tank holder - oceanic a clamp with low pressure hose, twin regulator with reflex t40d and oceanic alpha regulators with aqualung compass, airguage and timer - 15l tank (out of test) but full - various PADI books anyone have any ideas? Job lot or individual parts? He just wants rid and was going to put it in the paper but I don’t want someone to come round and bend him over. Dave at kelton
I am just selling my gear but as with everything it depends on make, condition and quality i have sold a scuba pro bcd with extras as £115 regulator set with gauges and fully serviced at £150 i have no interest in full steel 12l tanks out of test at £40 each fins sold at £15 I would sell suit gloves etc together and I am guessing £30-40 check the usual online market place weight belt depends on amount of weights I suggest you price up and half it. books no value good luck and now is time to sell at start of dive season

I would guess everything will need testing as i don’t think he has dived for years. I will have a scout on the auction site. I will split it and let the items run their courses. At least then I know it made the most it would for him and I can show him the auctions. Thanks for the pointers. 3 minutes ago, Diver One said: Depends if I has been looked after, used in pool, never washed, rusty etc the life dependent stuff i.e. Regs, BCD need servicing OR selling with a signed receipt from the buyer to say he will get them checked over and serviced before use try selling the lot to a local dive shop All clean, no rust and looks ok. Uk inland waters by all accounts with the odd sea trip. Apparently he rang the local one and was offered £30 for the lot. mickyh
Why on Earth would you trust your life to second hand dive gear ? You cant spend money 50 metres down! (40 metres for PADI maybe). Spend on quality new gear in a shop. Spend well, its a cold dark wet coffin your going into ! Google BSAC Incident Pit. Then see how much you have saved when a Cressi Frog strap snaps the same time as your torch goes out. Diving, like Parachuting, is not a hobby to scrimp on. I always respect other people's opinions when they are underpinned by knowledge. So perhaps you could state the diving agency to which you belong and the qualification level you hold. Thank you. mickyh
BSAC Since 1976 First St Marys 676 Last 3 Seas now Darlington Dolphins Dive Leader Blue and Red books still here. However I gave up Diving when I moved to central Yorkshire about 17 years ago. I'm being deadly serious I'm not looking for an argument. People are lost every year. Eliminate risks, dont buy second hand.
hedge
I don't see an issue buying 2nd hand, as long as you are careful/sensible. I bought a job lot from someone years ago. Some of it was rubbish and some of it was perfectly usuable. I've had a BCD, D4 torch and regs from eBay many years ago. All were serviced/tested before they got wet and they all served me well on various dive trips abroad. I accept that something that has been lurking on a garage floor for many years may not be fit for purpose. Ideally, buying new is always nice to have but not always possible. Eliminate risks, dont buy second hand - does that include guns as well? Like you - I'm not after an arguement. I'm just trying to understand the logic (I fully understand that kit failing at 30m is not a good thing). mickyh
It just seems that the person who is now selling has no knowledge of the Kit, so would not be able to answer any questions about it, or its history. Second hand gun fails to fire-no big deal. A demand valve that fails demand. Or a STAB Jacket that fails to inflate. Or all those 10p each 'O' rings that are perished and give up. Very big deal. I'm out now- good day to you all.
