Gordon R
I wisely invested £20 in some random nuts and bolts on a marketplace site. There are many brass and stainless steel metric bolts, but there were two items which caught my eye and curiosity. 40mm square zinc coated plates with a 10mm hole and a fair number of copper M8 threaded lengths. One end has a slight lip. Any idea what they are used for?
Yellow Bear
Square plate is a washer to use when building with "unistrut" The copper is for putting connection studs on copper bus bar in switchgear
figgy
As above, they come in handy as washers on wooden posts if using thread bar or bolts.
Gordon R
Thanks. I have a mate who is an industrial electrician - copper stuff might be of use to him.
1066
My brother died a while ago and he was a part time dealer in nuts and bolts - buying a random pallet and splitting it up into usable/manageable packs. When clearing out his stock I was left with stack of stuff that was really odd - I managed to sell of a good deal really cheaply but in the end a lot went for scrap, 6.8 tons, about half stainless steel and over a million pop-rivets. It really broke my heart to scrap stuff that was really quite valuable to the right person. I still have boxes of 1000 pop rivets etc.
figgy
Advertise them on the bay. Or contact sheet metal and cladding companies. You may sell them in job lots.
Gordon R
The copper threaded bolts turn out to be copper coated and used for spot welding studs onto things like heat shields. One of my shooting friends is a welder and put me straight. I will find a use for them.
