the hitman
Oats seem to be well down the pecking order ( excuse the pun) compared to rape or any other stubble . I have never shot over drilled oats either , but perhaps others have.
Cranfield
I have never seen pigeons express any interest in oats, either at drilling, or when ripe.

ciltalgarth
That's funny Ive not done much pigeon decoying myself but Magman took me out a few weeks ago with Tulkyuk and we started on fallen wheat and had 50 odd birds but then moved on too a field of fallen oats and ended up killing a final bag of 211. tulkyuk
They were also flying past and over fields of wheat to get to the oats
Cranfield
Thats an exceptional bag on any crop, but the first I have heard of on oats. Perhaps its because we don't have a lot of oats grown in this part of the country, or that they have a much greater choice of alternative food, but oat fields are a waste of time round here. Although, I think I will look a little bit more closely in the future.

M ROBSON
102 Pigeons shot on drilled Oats a couple of years back. Never shot many over Oat stubbles though. Lots more Oats than usual about this year so we'll find out soon. Mark.
jonnybgood
we only grow oats on our farm and iv always had good shooting when theve been drilled and on stubble. My mates farm iv completely coverd in fallen aots and the pigeons (mostly young) are all over the place.-there is a least 500+ birds feeding on them. malkiserow
I've not got any oats by me but in the pigeons right now are eating 50% rape seed and 50% barley. They are leaving the wheat alone for the time being ..... that I think will change when that starts to be harvested. Malk
Spaniel
I went up to see the Farmer yesterday and asked him what he was planting this year On the Main Farm he is (Should be today) drilling Two fields of Wheat. Talking yesterday he has a total of 20 fields to plough and drill some will be Wheat and others will be Oats. I guess if we get a dry spell we could possibly see some of this shooting over the next few weeks, which hopefully may attract the pigeons.. But im going to have to get the locations of these fields and keep an eye on them for activity i think as reading some of these posts it is a bit hit/miss with them feeding on Oats Cheers
MerseaDavid
I have shot many pigeons over drilled and harvested oats. Especially last year. They seemed to love the oat when we combined them.
