Myxomatosis Has Arrived

Down in Devon looking after my parents farm for a few weeks and noticed yesterday when running the combine a few dopey rabbits around, as I feared yesterday Mxyi has arrived on the farm.

So went for a walk with the HMR this evening around the 2 fields I suspected. Only took a full mag of 5 rounds plus one more as did not want to be out too long. 6 shots for 6 rabbits. Longest out to 120 yards, shortest about 35 yards. Rifle performs so well, point it where you want it to go out to 120 yards no problem.

Anyway, here is the bag of 6 and two of them showing signs of the disease.

i hope they dont come over this side of the sea as they are scarce enuf to get shooting.

Plenty of myxomatosis over this side of the sea john in most areas where there are large numbers of rabbits about there is always one or two with that awful disease round my way anyway, even if im out with .223 and i see one with myxy i will shoot it to put it out of its misery

Bunnie numbers have dropped around here too - we have blamed it on mixie, but maybe all that friggin rain had something to do with thier decline???

Good shooting again Jerry - you are diffinatly getting on well with that HMR - time for a centrefire soon mate.

I have a spare slot for a .22 rimmie but at this rate I might change that over to a .22 centre of sorts.

Plenty of time though to decide.

 Wierd thing is, im not seeing any mixy on my biggest shoot, however the numbers of bunnies has declined massively, I know we have shot a lot but it doesnt account for the sudden drop in numbers, my guess is the fox population is wiping them out before we see them.

Hmmm, I only shot 3 Saturday morning on the golf course and there is no myxi there, there are a few foxes but I haven't seen them for a while either . .
