AVB
The government should give everybody a Land Rover. Problem solved.

Walker570
Your absolutely right, Land Rover owners have got more sense than to put themselves at risk.

That's something of an oxymoron, 'having sense' and 'LR owner'

All the bits on my present Landie are 30yrs old apart from items such as alternator, tyres, brake pads and calipers which on any working vehicle will require changing throughout it's life at some stage. In factor the rear axle is 35yrs old being one from a classic Range Rover which upgraded it to rear disc brakes. The only major replacement was an upgrade to a galvanised chassis...my choice...the old one was still quite serviceable but I was looking at the next 30yrs. I tell a lie the engine is 28yrs old being a 3.9 block V8 still with carbs. I did damage the passenger door and found a second hand replacement about the same age. Great motor and takes me everywhere I need to go with confidence.

I retract my comment 😁
AVB
I posted the original comment in jest after I went to get some diesel and milk yesterday and couldn’t open the door of my Defender! That made me think that I have had at least one Land Rover of different types on the drive over the last 20 years and they were the most unreliable of all the cars I have had. Hence problem solved. Walker570
Yes, all the additional parts ARE original Land Rover parts from the same era. It was my choice to change the engine and putting in a 3.9 V8 suggested I needed the rear brakes to match. The only part which is a real upgrade on what you could get back in 1989 is the galvanised chassis. I have no reason to believe it will not run for another 30yrs, see me out for sure. Certainly more practical than this artsy fartsy new so called Defender. Can't see anyone throwing a couple of fallow carcases in the back of one of those in a hurry. loriusgarrulus
Mine is full of dog hair and rather mucky now.(That was a posh picture) I do put it on the slope of the drive and run a hosepipe round it inside and out once a year.
