We shot last week at the end of the day the dinner was different

all packed in individual hampers all delivered to the table outside

it wasn’t the same and not so sure about it however it was a good day

very strict with the social distancing and no group mixing 2 gun busses

no interaction with the beaters or picking up team

they managed to put on a very good day with difficult restrictions

No shoot lunch with us this year just packed lunches in  suitable stubble Park.

Usually as a captain at this time of year I'm thinking of drives and peg positions but this last week has been dominated with risk assements, arranging parking for the huge number of vehicles necessary now, forms for everyone to sign and all sorts of other things.

Still its up to all of us to play by the rules and not let the side down!

My first partridge day is in two weeks time. We checked with the estate yesterday and were told they could provide a meal if we really wanted, but the largish party would have to be split into three rooms. We opted for morning coffee outside, extra elevenses with a longer break, and to finish a cup of tea and cake, again outside. No gun bus, all to travel in own 4x4s. It won’t be the usual four hour social party afterwards, but it fits the gov rules and is much better than catching coronavirus. I will miss the banter in the gunbus.

Yes, there are many more pleasures to a day with a gun than just shooting things. The banter and socialising are all part of it, but needs must.  A shoot I was a member of used to set up a couple of gas burners in a large shed and did sausage and bacon baps and coffee on arrival. It worked a treat and could be adapted in the present circumstances.
