walshie
I was cleaning out the log burner earlier and the ash can had 5 live wasps in it. They were sluggish and covered in ash so I don't suppose they would have lasted long, but as we had a fire 2 nights ago, I wondered where they had come from. They were big, so would they have been queens looking for a nest for winter or just the last of the workers trying to get out of the cold? oowee
I have been having the same with Hornets and thought they might be in the air inlet pipe.
Mice!
I had one come in the garage Monday, I imagine they were drawn to the warmth of the log burner, I'd say they were Queens if they were noticeably bigger than normal. Walker570
Yes, queens looking for winter quarters. We get a lot in this old house and probably killed twenty or thrity last year. Had about half a dozen so far this year but only knew of one nest locally to us. All the workers die off and she will emerge come late spring and start a new colony. NatureBoy
Still have active nest in my roof. Not as strong as it was. Ivy in the garden covered in them and keeping plenty of other insects going to. NB
