figgy
Is the budget for the laptop and same again for printer or for both ? You'll get an ok laptop for £600.00 and a decent printer for £500.00, if for both spend as much as you can on the laptop and save more for the printer. billytheghillie
get a HP printer, i pay £1.99 a month for 50 prints, photos, and they send you ink when you need it.
enfieldspares
I've been disappointed, to say the least, with my last HP printer. Three months in and the screen failed. So had to get a replacement. That also is having issues with connectivity. The HP 5520 Model. So I won't be buying another of that make again. HP laptops I swear by. get one with SSD memory unless you prefer an old slow disc drive memory...but minimum 128 GB SSD...and avoid anything that says "netbook" or "Cloud storage". HP are excellent laptops but their printers have gone downhill in terms of reliability.

VicW
Unless I have misunderstood the type of printer you need you can get a printer for a tenth of what you quoted. Locally I could get a printer/copier/scanner for that money and sometimes it is cheaper to buy a new printer for less than the cost of replacement ink cartridges but be warned, new printers usually come with cartridges that are less than full. paul1966
if it's just the odd letter you print look at laser printers, with inkjets the heads dry out.
Cosmicblue
On the printer front look at Canon inkjets - the ink tanks are just that, some with up to 5 tanks for different colours low cost replacements from Amazon.
