Smoke burglar alarm

I was walking past a closed Vodafone store today and noticed a massive amount of white smoke billowing around inside and seeping out the door. Fearing a fire I peered inside to be met by two workmen coming out looking very puzzled. They were doing some work inside and set off an alarm that immediately fills the shop with dense smoke. Apparently it’s designed to stop raiders coming in and grabbing as many phones as they can. Never heard of these before but from what I saw I imagine they would be very effective.

It's called a "smoke cloak"

very effective and usually coupled with a really loud siren. The problem is that if the vapour gets in computer equipment it is knackered

A similar system was in use during the late 1990's/

I first came across one early 80s fitted in a large system room for a high end print company....I got very twitchy when asked to relocate it, very twitchy

I remember that we got told about them in the mid 90's iirc, just in case we were turned out to a report of "smoke coming from XYZ building" and then spraying all the expensive electronic equipment!

I secured my shed and tractor with some green paintball smoke flares. I thought it was a good idea until i forgot they were there and set one off.
